At 3 pm on April 15, 2022, at the invitation of Professor Ge Mingfeng and Distinguished Professor Yao Xiangyu of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, Professor Xie Xiangpeng of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications gave an online special academic report on his research results and progress on "Fuzzy control based on homogeneous matrix polynomial technique: theory and applications". More than 100 faculty members and master and doctoral students attended the presentation, which was hosted by Distinguished Professor Yao Xiangyu of our School.
Xie Xiangpeng, professor and doctoral supervisor of Nanjing University of Posts and telecommunications, native of Weifang, Shandong Province, studied at Northeastern University from 2000 to 2010 and received his PhD in Control Science and Engineering. He has been awarded a number of talent titles and projects, including the National Excellent Young Scientists Fund and Clarivate Analytics ESI Global Highly Cited Scholar. He has won the First Prize in Natural Science of Chinese Association of Automation (ranked 2nd), the Second Prize in Natural Science of Shanghai Science and Technology Award (ranked 3rd), the First Prize in Natural Science of China Simulation Federation (ranked 2nd), and the award of 100 Most Influential International Academic Papers in China of ISTIC (ranked 1st). His main research interests are fuzzy control, intelligent control of complex industrial processes, etc.
In his presentation, focusing on the three prominent problems of "difficult control, inaccurate measurement and high cost" of cold-rolled sheet shape control, Prof. Xie firstly proposed the fuzzy control theory and method based on multi-space-time homogeneous polynomial technique, proposed multi-time-scale fuzzy state estimation and fault diagnosis theory and method, and developed the independent intellectual property control system through key technical innovation supported by theory and method. The research results have been published in 61 authoritative papers as the first author/corresponding author, such as IEEE Transactions, CAS Q1, ACTA AUTOMATICA SINICA (including 36 in IEEE Transactions, 17 top 1% highly cited papers in ESI, 4296 SCI citations, with the highest single citation of 223 times). The research results have also been highly praised by 17 Chinese and foreign academicians, 47 overseas IEEE Fellows, and 39 mainland IEEE Fellows/Outstanding Youth/Chang Jiang scholars.
After that, Prof. Xie shared with our students and faculty the research work related to "intelligent modeling of heterogeneous data, intelligent optimization control and equipment safety protection" in the context of "Internet + Smart Manufacturing". After the presentation, the teachers and students had an in-depth academic exchange with Professor Xie Xiangpeng on fuzzy modeling and fuzzy control. Professor Xie answered the questions raised by our students and teachers in combination his own experience in fuzzy control theory and application research, such as "The difference between online evaluator-based fuzzy event triggering control and traditional event triggering technique", “How to eliminate or reduce the effect of output jitter through system modeling in the face of variable structure fuzzy rules?”, “The basis and method of establishing decision model and control model in the process of fuzzy modeling based on heterogeneous data”.
Prof. Xie Xianpeng has high academic attainments in the field of fuzzy control research and has done a lot of pioneering work in the application of intelligent control of complex industrial processes. His presentation was very enlightening and beneficial to the participating students and faculty members, and it was a great inspiration and help to carry out research on modeling, control and optimization of mechanical equipment and robot systems. The online academic report exchange was a great success!
