On June 15, 2020, the 4th International Conference on Robotics and Automation Sciences (ICRAS 2020) was held online. The conference was co-sponsored by School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of CUG (Wuhan) and IEEE, and it was aimed to promote the academic exchanges and cooperation in the fields of robotics and automation, understand and learn advanced foreign ideas and technologies, and improve the academic development level of robotics and automation related fields in China.

Famous scholars and researchers from Canada, Britain, Argentina, Pakistan, Vietnam and other countries and regions were invited to the conference. 58 delegates attended the conference, including 6 foreign delegates.

The conference officially started at 9 am on June 15. At the beginning of the conference, Prof. Ding Huafeng, Chairman of the Conference and Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of CUG (Wuhan), delivered a welcome speech, expressing gratitude and welcome to the scholars for attending the online conference during the epidemic on behalf of all members of the conference committee. Then, Prof. Zou Jianxiao from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China delivered an opening speech for the conference. He expressed the belief that the excellent reports and discussions by the experts would promote the frontier research in the field of robotics and automation, would strengthen the understanding of the field and promote cooperation. Six well-known experts at home and abroad were invited to give keynote report, including Prof. FERIAL EL-HAWARY from Dalhousie University of Canada, (IEEE LIFE FELLOW), Prof. Yan Liang from Beihang University, Prof. Sun Fuchun from Tsinghua University, Prof. Gao Feng from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Director of State Key Laboratory of Mechanical System and Vibration, Director of Institute of Major Equipment Design and Control Engineering), Prof. Guo Qing and Prof. Zou Jianxiao from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.

The conference lasted for two days, in the morning, the experts delivered keynote reports, and in the afternoon, the reports were divided into eight sessions according to the theme, which were delivered by the authors in two conference halls at the same time. The participants from Tsinghua University, North China Electric Power University, Shanghai University, The University of Leeds, Canada McMaster University and other institutions delivered reports on and discussed intelligent control system and optimization, robot and automation, signal processing, sensors, control and supervision system, system modeling and control, industrial engineering, and production and management.

The exchange of ideas and experience between scholars at home and abroad promoted the academic exchanges and cooperation in the fields of robotics and automation, and provided new directions and ideas for the rapid development of the next generation of intelligent robots.
