Program of the Eighth Campus Open Day for 2022 Postgraduate Admission of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan)

The School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) has a second-level doctoral degree program in geological equipment engineering and three first-level master's degree programs (mechanical engineering, information and communication engineering, and design), and three national and provincial educational platforms (China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) - National Engineering Practice Education Center of China Geological Equipment Group, Engineering Research Center of Ministry of Education for Geotechnical Drilling and Protection, and Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Electronics and Electricity for Higher Education in Hubei Province). The specific research directions of the School cover the research fields of mechanics and mechanical system dynamics, advanced mechanical design methods, geological engineering equipment and its automation, optical mechatronics technology, signal and image processing, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, intelligent instrumentation, intelligent control, intelligent manufacturing, industrial vision, product design, etc. The following is the program of the Eighth Campus Open Day of the School in 2022.

I. Preferential Admission Policies

Students who have participated in the campus open day activities and passed the interview by this School: if he/she gets the qualification of recommended exam-free candidate from the graduating university and apply for the recommended exam-free candidate of our university through the recommended exam-free system of the Ministry of Education at the specified time (must be the same as the announced admission unit and major), he/she can be directly admitted as a master degree candidate in 2023, and enjoy the first-class scholarship in the first year; or, if he/she takes part in the 2023 national master entrance examination and apply for our university as the first choice (must be the same as the announced admission unit and major), with the preliminary examination results reaching the score line for second-round examination of the admission unit, he/she will be given priority to be admitted under equal conditions after the second-round examination for 2023 postgraduate admission. In addition, the pre-selection of MD-PhD based candidates and master-to-doctoral candidates will be carried out among the students with recommended exam-free potential.

II. Qualification Required

The applicants should be fresh graduates from high-level universities in 2023 and must meet the following requirements:

1. Chinese citizens who are politically and ideologically competent, law-abiding, of good moral character, and physically and mentally healthy.

2. Undergraduate students majoring in mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, electronic information engineering, communication engineering and industrial design (or majors related to the above majors) from universities with "double first-class" disciplines, ranking in the top 50% of their majors; or with strong scientific research interests, strong innovation ability and outstanding academic achievements, etc. (supporting documents such as scientific research achievements and competitions, as well as letters of recommendation from two experts with the title of associate professor or above in their field of study are required).

3. For undergraduate students majoring in mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, electronic information engineering, communication engineering and industrial design (or majors related to the above majors) from universities without "double first-class" disciplines: excellent academic performance, ranking in the top 10% of the majors in the first 3 years (or the first 5 semesters) of the undergraduate course. If the results fail to meet the above requirements, they should obtain at least one provincial-level or above academic competition award (ranking first) in this discipline; or at least one (item) T5 (according to our university's journal classification method, T5 is equivalent to core journals) or above zoning paper (first author), or invention patent (first inventor), or utility model patent (first inventor); complete the excellent conclusion of the university students' innovation and entrepreneurship training program as the project investigator(or key member).

4. Excellent English proficiency, with a score of 425 or above in CET- 4 or with other foreign language test scores equivalent to this.

III. Application Materials and Time Schedule

1. Registration: From June 22 to June 27, students can log in to the online registration system of CUG postgraduate admission information network (2022 campus open day registration system for postgraduate admission: http://epo.cug.edu.cn/Open/ZsTkssXly/Signin.aspx) for registration. Students are required to fill in the relevant information completely in the system, including graduation institution, applied school, intended supervisor, etc.; whether the information is filled in completely will be one of the conditions for the shortlist notification.

2. Materials submission: Please send a scanned copy of the following documents (combined into one pdf file) in a package with the file name "Name of major applied for - Name - Name of undergraduate school" by June 27. Application materials should be submitted to the mailbox 1849763590@qq.com.

① One application form (derived from the registration system for double-sided printing on A4 paper) for 2022 campus open day activities of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan).

② Scanned copy of original ID card and student card;

③ Undergraduate transcripts and major ranking information (copies must be stamped with the official seal of the academic affairs office or the school or department);

④ Scanned copy of CET-4 and CET-6 report card (or other English level certificates);

⑤ Other supporting materials (such as published papers, various award certificates, qualification certificates, etc.).

3. The campus open day is from June 29 to 30. The students of CUG shall submit the originals and copies of all paper materials at the specified time on the day of registration. The School will review the submitted materials (the originals will be returned on the spot) and the submitted materials must be consistent with the contents filled in the system.

IV. Specific Schedule

The combination of online and offline is adopted. The offline form will be adopted for on-campus students, while online form is adopted for off-campus students.

V. Assessment Method

Students from other universities will take online interview assessment through Tencent meeting, while students from our School will take offline interview assessment. Please join QQ group (Group No.: 761074431) for specific grouping information in order to receive relevant notices. The assessment will focus on the candidate's knowledge structure, ability to comprehensively apply knowledge, and potential for research and innovation, generally for no less than 15 minutes. The comprehensive interview focuses on the candidates' professional quality, innovative spirit and ability, ideological and political quality and moral quality, practical ability, foreign language listening and speaking ability, etc. It will comprehensively assess the candidates' mastery of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the discipline (major), their ability to discover, analyze and solve problems by using the learned theories, their understanding of the development trends of the discipline and their development potential in the field of the major.

(1) Professional ability and comprehensive quality interview (full score of 100, weight of 80%) comprehensively assesses the candidates' mastery of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the discipline (major), their ability to discover, analyze and solve problems by using the learned theories, their understanding of the development trends of the discipline and their development potential in the field of the major, their innovative spirit, innovative ability and comprehensive quality.

(2) Foreign language listening and speaking (full score of 100, weight of 20%) examines the candidates’ foreign language listening and speaking ability.

Score of second-round examination: the results of second-round examination are scored according to the 100 point system.  Score of second-round examination = professional ability and comprehensive quality interview score *0.8 + foreign language listening and speaking score *0.2

VI. Points for Attention

1. If false registration materials or certificates are found, all qualifications obtained therefrom will be cancelled, and the School reserves the right to investigate.

2. Students participating in the open day activities must abide by the relevant regulations of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and participate in the activities according to the unified arrangement.

3. Epidemic prevention and control: The students should make preparation for personal protection according to the epidemic prevention and control requirements of their local place and the University.
