On the afternoon of September 15, 2025, Director Shan Huasheng of the Office of Laboratory and Equipment Management, accompanied by three members of his leadership team, visited our school for a work research. Qu Xianghua, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, deputy dean Hao Guocheng, and faculty members responsible for laboratories from various departments and centers attended the symposium. At the symposium, Qu Xianghua, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, welcomed the leaders from the Office of Laboratory and Equipment Management on behalf of the school, briefly introduced the disciplinary strengths and expressed gratitude to the Office of Laboratory and Equipment Management for its long-standing strong support for the development and construction of the School.
Director Shan Huasheng first introduced the background and purpose of this research. He noted that this research initiative aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of the practical needs of the School in equipment management, laboratory construction, and the cultivation of experimental technical personnel. This effort seeks to further optimize resource allocation and enhance the efficiency of equipment utilization. He stated that the Office of Laboratory and Equipment Management will prioritize gathering feedback from the School on the construction of engineering training center, the development of specialized laboratories, the cultivation of laboratory talent, and the assessment and management of major instruments. Based on this input, the Office will implement scientific planning and effective management.
Deputy Dean Hao Guocheng reported on the basic situation of the teaching laboratories, their construction progress and main difficulties faced by them. He stated that the School has always attached great importance to the construction and development of laboratories, and looks forward to further strengthening the construction of the laboratory technical faculty, scientifically planning and managing laboratory equipment, strengthening daily maintenance and updates, optimizing equipment sharing mechanisms, improving equipment utilization efficiency, achieving optimal resource allocation, providing service guarantees for teaching and research, and empowering the high-quality development of the university and school with the strong support from the Office of Laboratory and Equipment Management. At the meeting, Professor Wang Jiahao from the Department of Electronic Information reported on issues concerning teaching equipment, specialized laboratory construction, shared teaching resources, and experimental technical personnel. Mr. Wang Wei from the Communication major raised the issue of insufficient teaching area for some courses and a shortage of comprehensive training resources for senior students. Mr. Zhao Quan, Director of the Center, provided feedback on course development and curriculum-related matters. Mei Shuang from the Department of Mechanical Engineering presented suggestions for professional development and proposed functional configurations for the Engineering Training Center.
In response to the above issues, Director Dan has made clear arrangements. First, clarify the positioning of the Engineering Training Center, with foundational laboratory courses as its core function, primarily serving the teaching needs of first- and second-year students across the university. Professional course development will be led and advanced by individual schools, achieving a division of labor and collaboration between “foundational support and specialized cultivation.” Second, advance resource optimization through centralized management. Utilize a large-property model to resolve resource allocation challenges, promote the consolidation of shared laboratories across multiple schools, and initiate faculty recruitment next year to alleviate teaching staff pressure. Simultaneously, balance course credit hours with student enrollment scales in training programs to ensure that teaching resources are adapted to the pace of talent cultivation. Third, expand the value of space and resources, emphasizing the teaching space freed up through integration, focusing on supporting the establishment and construction of new majors in the School, synchronously carrying out research on the construction and updating of professional laboratories, and effectively ensuring the construction of professional laboratories and disciplines in the School by introducing new laboratory equipment and technologies.
Secretary Qu Xianghua concluded that the research symposium has established an efficient communication bridge between the School and the Office of Laboratory and Equipment Management. It has not only precisely identified the needs and pain points of the School in laboratory construction, equipment management, and talent cultivation, but also clarified the direction and path for subsequent collaborative advancement. Next, the School will take this research as an opportunity to sort out its existing teaching resources and curriculum construction needs, plan public curriculum reform, formulate a decoration plan for the second floor of the Engineering Training Center, continuously strengthen coordination with the Office of Laboratory and Equipment Management, make precise efforts in resource optimization, team building and teaching innovation, and continuously improve the laboratory's ability and level of serving teaching and research, so as to inject more momentum into the high-quality development of the university.
