On July 10, 2025, the National Finals of the 16th Foundry Process Design Competition came to a close at Shanghai University of Engineering Science. Since its launch in October 2024, this competition has attracted 1,548 entries from 159 colleges and universities, involving a total of 5,461 participating students. Following rigorous internal selection processes, 920 entries were shortlisted for evaluation (858 from the undergraduate group and 62 from the graduate group). On May 14, 2025, the Executive Committee held a selection meeting for the regional competitions (Eastern, Southern, Western, Northern, and Central Divisions) of this event in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. A total of 678 entries from each regional competition were selected as first and second prize winners to proceed to the national finals.
After independent blind review by evaluation experts, internal discussion and re-examination within the group, on-site defense review, and a casting knowledge competition, the entries selected by our school won 4 national second prizes (a record-breaking achievement) and 1 third prize. The number of students receiving national awards reached 20. Additionally, we secured 5 first prizes and 2 second prizes in the southern division, with 28 students receiving provincial awards in the regional competition.
The Undergraduate School and the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) have always attached great importance to this competition. Since its launch in October 2024, they have comprehensively promoted and mobilized students to actively participate. On February 4, 2025, they successfully held the university-level selection round for the 2025 Foundry Process Design Competition. Liu Fuchu, the competition advisor, led preparatory activities for participating students, including pre-competition mobilization, competition organization, and instructions on the submission of work files. He has invited senior students to answer questions and provide guidance, and has repeatedly guided students online and offline in revising their work files, providing maximum support to the participating students.
It is reported that the “China College Students Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition: Foundry Process Design Competition”, hosted by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society and organized by its Foundry Branch, aims to encourage college students to proactively track technological advancements, acquire foundry expertise, enhance foundry process design and practical skills, elevate foundry innovation and engineering capabilities, foster teamwork and craftsmanship, create favorable conditions for student entrepreneurship and employment, and promote the development of China's foundry industry.
Since its inception in 2009, the Foundry Process Design Competition has been held for 16 consecutive years, with a total of over 36,000 students from more than 200 colleges and universities participating in the event. The competition attracts a large number of participants, has a broad impact, and delivers excellent results in cultivating professional skills. As a sub-competition of the national-level “China College Students Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition,” it has been included in the National Ranking of Discipline Competitions in Regular Higher Education Institutions for eight consecutive years (2015-2023), which fully demonstrates that the competition level, format, effectiveness, and social impact of this event have been highly recognized by the industry and participating universities.
