On May 12, 2025 at 14:30, a May Fourth Symposium for Teachers and Students & a Reception Day by Leaders of School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information was held at Room 314, No. 2 Teaching Building. Party Secretary Qu Xianghua, Dean Ning Fulong, Deputy Dean Li Bo, Deputy Party Secretary Wu Di, department heads, all counselors, and representatives of teachers and students attended the meeting. It was presided by Ding Yufeng, Deputy Secretary of the College Youth League Committee, and both teachers and students had an in-depth exchange on core issues such as youth growth and development, and the development of the School's undertaking.

Liu Fuchu, a young teacher representative from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, gave a speech. He used the "four identities" of educational practice as a breakthrough point and systematically introduced the model of "postgraduate-undergraduate" collaboration to guide the science and technology innovation contests. He mentioned that subject competitions could effectively cultivate students' innovation capability and teamwork spirit, and suggested further improving the long-term mechanism of "promoting learning and teaching through competitions".

Lu Maikao, a student representative and one of Top 10 model postgraduates, deeply explained the life choice of "integrating the lesser self into the greater self" with the story of "transitioning from e-commerce entrepreneurship to serving the country with technology". He vividly demonstrated the empowering effect of scientific research practice on youth growth by combining his experience of publishing 8 academic papers in international journals and serving as a top tier journal reviewer.

A student representative and the monitor of Class Zijin, Liu Wenjing, shared his arduous journey of studying in CUG from the mountainous areas of Guizhou. He mentioned that joining Class Zijin was not only driven by the determination to "change the family situation", but also by a profound understanding of the "opportunities of the times". In addition, from a personal perspective, he provided a detailed introduction to the interdisciplinary joint training model between the School and Zijin Mining Group for the fields of geology, mining, and mechanical engineering and electronic engineering. On behalf of the students of Class Zijin, he promised to always take it as his responsibility to serve the country through mining and contribute to the high-quality development of China's mining industry.

A student representative Sheng Xuxuan, from Class 072231, Grade 2023, shared his thoughts on the establishment of cultural symbols in this School. He began from the cultural design and entertainment activities of this School, such as the Little Electric Chicken IP and Kite Festival posters, conveyed the students' concerns and discussions about the School Motto, cultural symbols, and main colors. In response to this, he proposed to launch a collection activity for School Motto, hoping that the spirit of "innovation, perseverance, and far-reaching" of teachers, seniors, and sisters could be refined and carried forward, becoming a spiritual torch to illuminate the students in this School, and leading teachers and students to convey the feelings of the students in this School of serving the country with exquisite craftsmanship and professional dedication in various activities.

Student representatives from each grade provided suggestions and recommendations on various matters, such as implementing online practice approval and specifying departmental responsibilities; breaking down the "GPA based" restriction for graduate admissions and refining competition and contribution indicators; directionally releasing relevant national policies and benefits for the personal development of minority students; opening a fast track for dormitory allocation for students transferring majors; in response to the contradiction between postgraduate practice and scientific research, classifying and developing training programs, expanding university-enterprise joint bases, etc. They provided their own youthful wisdom for the development of the School and talent cultivation.

Dean Ning Fulong provided a detailed reply to the suggestions and questions raised by the student representatives. He highly praised the students of this School for their sense of responsibility and enterprising spirit, and emphasized that this School would always place student development at the core. He provided detailed feedbacks on various demands raised by students, including practice arrangements, support for science and technology innovation contests, policies for graduate admission without exams, policies for ethnic minorities, adjustments to dormitories for transferring majors, collection of cultural symbols for this School, and laboratory workstations. Among them, regarding the issue of cultural symbols of this School, he pointed out that we should consider how to showcase the unique style of this School in the face of current technological changes, and suggested that creative ideas from teachers and students could be efficiently gathered through voting and other means. At the same time, he also hoped that the students should seize the day, seize the hour, live up to their youth, and devote themselves to learning. This School would uphold an open and inclusive attitude, spare no effort to solve problems for students, and help them run hard on the track of youth.

Party Secretary Qu Xianghua delivered a concluding speech on this symposium. Party Secretary Qu Xianghua provided rigorous and detailed answers to the questions raised by the students regarding the postgraduate recommendation policy, specialized practice, technological innovation activities, arrangements for ethnic minority students, and personal growth and development. He expressed sincere gratitude for the students' candid sharing and expressed earnest expectations. This symposium fully demonstrated the good atmosphere between teachers and students for collaborative development. It is hoped that the young people will strengthen their ideals and beliefs, cultivate their family and country feelings, develop their strong skills, carry forward the spirit of struggle, take the responsibility of "integrating the lesser self into the greater self", make contributions to the places which the motherland needs, and inject youth momentum into the construction of Chinese path to modernization.
