Successful Completion of the Comments on National Foundation Application Documents of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information
On March 7, 2025, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information successfully held a review meeting on the national fund application documents in Conference Room 502 of No. 2 teaching building, and the meeting was chaired by Deputy Dean Luo Jie. Teachers such as Zhou Feng, Liu Yong, Ge Mingfeng and Cheng Yiwei were invited to express their opinions on the national foundation application documents one by one. Dean Ning Fulong made in-depth comments on each applicant.
The meeting kicked off with Dean Ning Fulong’s precise comments on the submitted application documents. Focusing on the principle of “streamlining and efficiency”, i.e., “subtracting for each part”, Dean Ning Fulong analyzed the common problems such as irregular format, shallow abstracts and insufficient expression of research significance. He emphasized that the application documents should be reasonably detailed, with each part carefully crafted, to ensure precise and powerful expression. Based on his personal experience, Dean Ning Fulong pointed out that the significance of research should focus on its importance, urgency, and necessity, in order to highlight the unique value of the research. In terms of feasibility analysis, he encouraged the teachers to change perspectives, such as introducing international cooperation and other elements, to enrich and support the argumentation of feasibility analysis. In terms of characteristics and innovations, he particularly pointed out that “unique features” should be highlighted, such as systematic characteristics of multidisciplinary intersection and multi-degree coupling, and suggested that innovations should be crystallized from the three levels of theory, methodology and technology. In addition, Dean Ning Fulong emphasized the importance of illustrating and improving details to ensure the overall aesthetics and readability of the application documents.
Deputy Dean Luo Jie highly agreed with Dean Ning Fulong’s comments and emphasized that writing the National Foundation application documents is not only the process of applying for funds, but also an important opportunity to improve personal thinking, logic and methodology.
Afterwards, four teachers, Zhou Feng, Liu Yong, Cheng Yiwei and Ge Mingfeng, made detailed comments on the submitted application documents. Mr. Zhou Feng highlighted the need for concise titles and rich abstracts. Mr. Liu Yong, on the other hand, emphasized that the research foundation should highly condense the existing research results and experimental conditions, and highlight the continuity and profundity of the research. Mr. Cheng Yiwei suggested to write strictly according to the requirements and strengthen the thesis statement. Mr. Ge Mingfeng thought that attention should be paid to the compactness of the format and suggested that charts and data should be inserted appropriately in the application documents to enhance the visualization and persuasiveness of the research.
This meeting not only made the teachers deeply aware of the problems and deficiencies in the submitted documents, but also provided them with valuable revision suggestions. Dean Ning Fulong encouraged everyone to take this as an opportunity to continuously improve the quality of the application documents and lay a solid foundation for future research. The successful completion of this review meeting marks a solid step forward for the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information in improving its research level and fund application capability.
