(Reported by Zhang Zeyu and Yan Lin) On the afternoon of February 21, 2025, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information successfully held a foundation exchange meeting in Conference Room 314 of No. 2 Teaching Buiding, which was chaired by Dean Luo Jie. Mr. Liu Yong and Mr. Ge Mingfeng shared and exchanged in-depth information on the application of Natural Science Foundation projects, which attracted the active participation of many teachers and students.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dean Luo gave a warm welcome to the attendees and emphasized the importance of fund application for scientific research, which kicked off the meeting.

Mr. Liu Yong first gave a presentation on the topic of “Application for the General Program of Natural Science Foundation”, which was divided into four parts. He first emphasized the importance of clear project positioning, pointing out the core features of general program and the core elements of evaluation. He then gave a detailed introduction to the pre-application preparation, including topic selection strategy, how to write a title and abstract, and the design of research proposal. In terms of application writing skills, Mr. Liu Yong shared how to accurately express the research objectives, reasonably plan the research proposal and highlight the innovative points of the project, and how to condense the key scientific issues. Finally, he also answered some common questions in the fund application and provided feasible suggestions for the attendees.

Mr. Ge Mingfeng shared his views from four dimensions with the theme of “Communication on NSF Submission”. He first explained the importance and basic status of fund application, and emphasized the role of the fund in promoting the growth of scientific researchers, discipline development as well as the national scientific and technological innovation. In terms of topic selection and innovation, he shared three major principles of topic selection, i.e., correct thinking, appropriate methods, and clear themes. In terms of writing skills, he talked about the aspects from which experts often reject applications, and on the flip side, he explained the basic principles of refined writing, emphasizing the importance of clear logic and sufficient argumentation. Finally, Mr. Ge provided a summary and suggestions for action, encouraging everyone to plan ahead and prepare carefully.

After the sharing by the two teachers, Dean Ning Fulong summarized and commented on the exchange meeting. Dean Ning highly praised the sharing content of the two teachers, and believed that their experience sharing is highly instructive and practical, which will play a positive role in promoting the attendees’ fund application work. Dean Ning also emphasized the support of the school for fund application work, and encouraged everyone to actively apply for it to improve the scientific research level of the school.

The successful holding of this fund exchange meeting has provided a good learning and communication platform for teachers of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information to apply for funds, and everyone had a deeper understanding and clearer recognition of the application for programs supported by the natural science foundation. The attendees gained a lot from this exchange meeting and will actively apply their knowledge in future fund application work, strive to improve the quality of application forms, and contribute to the scientific research development of the School.
