On October 31, 2024, the “National Finals and Award Ceremony of the 16th UXD Award International User Experience Innovation Competition” hosted by UXPA China was successfully concluded in Shenzhen. The theme of this competition is “Reconstruction Beyond Boundaries”, which reveals a core truth: with the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, the way we learn, work and live will undergo an unprecedented transformation, and this transformation will not only change the external form, but also revolutionize the internal experience.
This competition includes two directions of works: artificial intelligence and green care (public welfare). After more than half a year of competition, multiple teams from universities in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and overseas competed fiercely for three rounds of competition. A total of 32 teams entered the national finals, and 14 teams were awarded the prize in the end. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Xiao Chang from the Department of Industrial Design, Li Xuan, Wu Wuli, Yang Chu, Xu Jingwen and Li Mingzhuo, students majoring in Industrial Design at our School, won the first and only gold prize in the national competition for their work "How about Walking? - A Virtual Reality Integrated Gamified City Exploration Service System Based on CityWalk".
The team hopes to help young people in the city establish a deeper connection with the city through city walk, so that they can feel the warmth of the city wherever they live. At the same time, the work allows young people to become more interested in the city and gain a deeper understanding of the culture during city walks, thus deepening their sense of belonging and identity to the city.
Creative Concept: In recent years, citywalk has become popular. In order to provide users with a better experience during the walk, the team has created a service system that uses weak connections to enter the relationship between people and society, helping people explore the cities around them in depth and reshape the relationship between people and cities. Through a gamified service model, combined with AR and AI technology, and the physical connection between the store’s message check-in device and users, a combined online and offline service system is created. People can jointly create a memory world about the city and experience the infinite charm of the city in this short escape moment that belongs only to themselves

The International User Experience Innovation Competition (UXD Award) started in 2009 and is hosted by UXPA China (User Experience Professional Association). It is the first design competition in China focused on user experience. The competition is aimed at college students and also collaborates with schools and enterprises. The competition promotes the UCD (user-centered design) concept and requires students to simulate an enterprise project team including students with functions such as product manager, user researcher, visual design, interaction design and front-end development, to complete product or system design that meets the user experience standards. The competition invites senior industry experts to serve as judges, providing comments and guidance during in the phases of user needs analysis, conceptual design, concept validation and optimization, detailed design and prototype production. It is a promotion-based competition for educational purpose. Up to now, a total of 15 sessions have been held, covering more than 300 universities and involving nearly 100 enterprises, with tens of thousands of participants, cultivating a large number of user experience talents for the industry and promoting the popularization and promotion of user experience in China.
