On February 18th, in order to ensure a high-quality 2024 Democratic Meeting, the Party Committee of the School held a special study meeting. The meeting was presided over by Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, with the participation of members of the Party Committee and all members of the leadership team of the School.
The meeting focused on the theme of “Thoroughly studying and implementing Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, consolidating and deepening the results of the study and education on Party discipline, comprehensively playing the role of educational constraints, safeguards and incentives of the Party's discipline, and rallying the strength for further deepening the reform in a comprehensive manner, solidly pushing forward the practical actions in building a strong country and CUG with education, and speeding up the construction of the internationally renowned research university in the field of geosciences”, and had an in-depth study of Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and the spirit of the National Education Conference. The meeting emphasized the important deployment of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection on rectifying corruption in universities, as well as the in-depth interpretation of the "Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the Joint Review and Investigation Work of Discipline Inspection and Supervision Institutions in Central Management Universities and Local Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision". After in-depth study, we deeply understand that strengthening the joint review and investigation between the school and the local authorities can fully integrate the advantageous resources of both parties, effectively improve the efficiency and quality of investigating and handling disciplinary and illegal cases in universities, and effectively ensure the standardized and efficient operation of case handling procedures.
Subsequently, the attendees focused on analyzing a series of typical warning cases of disciplinary violations in universities. Among them, Zhang Guang, former vice president of Beihang University, committed serious illegal acts, which had a great negative impact on the university education system and sounded the alarm of integrity and self-discipline for all attendees. In addition, the case of Wang, a teacher of Renmin University of China, who sexually harassed a student, also triggered profound reflection and heated discussion, highlighting the importance of building teacher ethics.
With the steady increase of research funding in the School, compliance with the use of funds was highlighted as a key point at this meeting. It is explicitly required that every expenditure must strictly follow the established financial system. It is required to prevent all kinds of problems caused by carelessness and illegal operations from the source, to safeguard the safe and efficient use of scientific research funds with a rigorous attitude and standardized process, and to assist the School in carrying out high-quality scientific research work.
The pre-meeting study has laid a solid ideological foundation for the subsequent democratic meeting. The School will organize a democratic meeting around the two core topics of integrity building and high-quality development on Friday. At that time, all attendees will gather their wisdom, actively provide suggestions and ideas, and inject strong impetus into the School to achieve high-quality development.
