In order to encourage the teachers to innovate the teaching mode of ideological and political education in all courses, truly integrate ideological and political education with subject teaching, further improve the students’ comprehensive quality, and truly implement the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and morality in university education, the School held the third exchange seminar on ideological and political education in all courses and teaching competition on the afternoon of December 6, 2024 at Room 301 of No. 2 Teaching Building.
After selection and recommendation of each unit, four teachers, including Zhang Jing from the Department of Electronic Information Engineering, Li Min from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Li Changping from the Department of Industrial Design, and He Hongliang from the Department of Communication Engineering, participated in the teaching competition. Wu Di, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School, university supervisor Wu Guoping, school supervisor Li Li, school supervisor Wang Wen, and the three award-winning teachers of the previous lecture competition, including Zhang Xiangli from the Department of Electronic Information Engineering, Xu Linhong from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Hao Guocheng from the Department of Communication Engineering, were invited as judges.
In this competition, the four participating teachers each gave a 10-minute lecture on ideological and political education in the course and a 15-minute classroom teaching presentations. The topic taught by Mr. He Hongliang was access network technology. He summarized ideological and political education into four words: "feeling", "thinking", "knowing", and "acting", and interspersed Marxist theoretical methods such as contradiction theory with emerging technologies such as 5G, AI and cloud computing. He emphasized the importance of access network security by citing cases such as the transmission of intelligence by ancient border general and encouraged students to serve the country with their actions and take responsibility. The theme presented by Mr. Li Changping was mechanical drawing. He summarized the ideological and political education in all course into one main line and three aspects, refined the teaching implementation process into pre-class, in-class, and post-class, and integrated teaching design, teaching content and teaching methods into one, so that students to deeply appreciated the importance of the course "Drawing is the language of engineers". Ms. Li Min, whose entry was engineering thermodynamics, believed that the purpose of ideological and political education is to stimulate students’ interest and patriotism, optimized the teaching content according to the needs, and stimulated students’ participation in the classroom by introducing the impact of “great national implements” on the future life and national security. Ms. Zhang Jing’s entry was information photonics technology. She firstly introduced the course from the three aspects of teaching objectives, guiding ideology and teaching purpose. Starting from the fundamental purpose, basic principles and specific objectives of ideological and political education, she introduced the photoelectric effect and related knowledge with the main line of scientists such as Albert Einstein, Wu Youxun, Compton, etc., and encouraged the students to become well-rounded talents with both morality and talent, just like the “six talented university students”.
After the competition, it was time for the judges’ comments and discussion. The judges unanimously agreed that the participating teachers were well prepared and followed the rules of students, curriculum, and competition in content; the curriculum was seamlessly integrated with ideological and political education, and the materials presented by the teachers were appropriate and attractive, which could effectively stimulate students’ interest. Each of the four teachers’ presentations was unique, and some in particular were very fluent, natural, and subversive, as they distinguished themselves from traditional teaching. At the same time, all the teachers have achieved a very high level in the fields of scientific research and teaching, and have also been able to integrate reflections on patriotism and academic ethics into the teaching process, which is very rare.
Finally, deputy dean Li Bo made a summary statement on this competition and seminar activity. He believed that the exchange activity of ideological and political education in all courses is a good platform for publicizing and embodying the spirit of educators and scientists, and that it should be continued and turned into a high-quality activity. He also put forward the following suggestions: firstly, teachers need to think about how to explore and practice from the perspective of constructing the theoretical system of ideological and political education in all courses; secondly, how to realize the natural integration of ideological and political cases with professional content through flexible and diverse mechanisms and methods; thirdly, to further enhance the role of ideological and political elements contained in engineering professional ethics.
According to the scores given by on-site judges, He Hongliang won the first prize, Zhang Jing won the second prize, and Li Changping and Li Min won the third prize.
