Civilizing the People through Cultural Development and Moral Education —— The Second Seminar on Ideological and Political Education in All Courses and Teaching Competition of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information

In order to further deepen the teaching reform of ideological and political education in all courses, innovate the teaching mode of ideological and political education in all courses, encourage teachers to deeply explore the connotation of ideological and political education in all courses, and truly implement the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and morality, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information held the Second Seminar on Ideological and Political Education in All Courses and Teaching Competition in Room A0104 of the East Teaching Building on the afternoon of October 26, 2023.

After selection and recommendation from all units, five teachers, including Zhang Xiangli from the Department of Electronic Information, Liu Hao from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Xiong Wei from the Department of Industrial Design, Yi Ying from the Department of Communication Engineering, and Tu Bo from the Engineering Teaching Experimental Center, participated in the teaching competition on ideological and political education. Qu Xianghua, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, and Wu Di, deputy secretary of the Party Committee, visited the site in person for guidance, and Li Bo, deputy dean in charge of teaching, presided over the competition. Prof. Wu Guoping, a university-level supervisor, Prof. Li Li, a school-level supervisor, as well as three award-winning teachers (Guo Hongwang from the Department of Electronic Information, Xu Linhong from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Hao Guocheng from the Department of Communication Engineering) were invited to be the judges of the competition. All teachers and members of the teaching teams actively participated in the competition for mutual learning and improvement.

During the competition, the five participating teachers fully demonstrated their professional qualities and profound thinking. They skillfully integrated ideological and political elements into the courses they taught, and conducted unique discussions on ideological and political teaching from different viewpoints and perspectives. Ms. Zhang Xiangli made a comprehensive introduction from the ideological and political principles, construction goals, teaching content, teaching design, curriculum tasks, technological innovation and engineering applications. She skillfully integrated the course content with the ideological and political theme, and promoted it through blogs, WeChat and other online channels, which stimulated the students’ spirit of independent exploration.

Mr. Tu Bo focused on the overall design ideas and contents of the ideological and political education in all courses, and introduced China’s challenges and achievements in the field through the development history of supercomputer and microcomputer, which was thought-provoking. Mr. Xiong Wei vividly described the Chinese traditional five-color system to enhance the students’ cultural confidence, and explained the visual effect of color through actual cases, guiding the students to stay alert to external media.

Mr. Yi Ying skillfully integrated the materials, elements and strategies of ideological and political education with the knowledge points of the course to cultivate students’ sense of social responsibility, patriotism and aesthetic literacy with the goal of educating people for the Party and the country. Mr. Liu Hao explored the elements of ideological and political education from two aspects, namely, course orientation and teaching status, and skillfully integrated them into the course, focusing on cultivating students’ sense of national responsibility, sense of mission, innovative thinking and craftsmanship spirit.

These teachers, with their rich teaching experience and unique teaching methods, have successfully integrated ideological and political education with subject teaching, providing strong support for the improvement of students’ comprehensive quality.

Prof. Wu Guoping, the university-level teaching supervisor, gave full recognition and guidance to this activity. He believed that the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information has always attached great importance to teaching and always paid attention to the improvement of the teachers’ teaching level and the construction of the teaching team. In this competition on ideological and political education in all courses, teachers demonstrated how to use penetrative teaching and interactive guidance to impart knowledge to students, and also introduced how to skillfully integrate the ideological and political education elements into the course to subtly influence and shape students’ moral character and personality. He believed that the sincere emotions and sincere efforts shown by teachers in teaching would provide solid spiritual support and guidance for students’ future growth and success, and that these successful experiences and cases would help to further enrich the teaching connotation of the teaching of ideological and political education in all courses, promote the continuous innovation and improvement of education and teaching, and cultivate more socialist builders and successors who are all-rounded in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor.

Qu Xianghua, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, made a concluding speech on the competition. He pointed out that the teaching activities of the School had been focusing on the theme of For whom to cultivate, who are to be cultivated and how to cultivate them. In this event, the teachers integrated ideological and political elements with professional knowledge very well, truly reflecting the excellent professional level, and achieving the original education and teaching intention and mission of “civilizing the people through cultural development and moral education”. He encouraged the teachers to summarize and promote the successful teaching experience and teaching methods in time, and all the grassroots teaching organizations and teams should actively promote the curriculum construction of the School, and strive to create more golden lessons to promote the discipline construction and development of the School, so as to make greater contributions to the cultivation of more idealistic, responsible, and affectionate outstanding talents.

According to the on-site scoring by the judges, Zhang Xiangli won the first prize, Liu Hao and Xiong Wei won the second prize, and Yi Ying and Tu Bo won the third prize.
