Faculty Congress of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information

   On the afternoon of Oct. 12, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information held the faculty congress in 301 Lecture Hall of No. 2 Teaching Building to convey and deploy the key work of the School in the near term, which was chaired by Qu Xianghua, secretary of the Party Committee of the School.

   Deputy dean Luo Jie summarized the achievements in scientific research in the past three years: first, the School has introduced a number of talents in recent years, injecting more new forces into the development of the School’s scientific research work; second, the Schools scientific research projects have been steadily improving in both quality and quantity, and the number of participants in major projects has been increasing year by year. Comrade Luo Jie also pointed out the short boards in the development of the School: on the one hand, the School lacks professional construction leaders with authority in the industry and influence at home and abroad, and its position and influence in the scientific research field are not high; on the other hand, the coverage rate of scientific research projects among teachers is still not high. In response to the existing short boards, Comrade Luo Jie proposed to consciously carry out the relevant work, especially paying attention to teamwork, so as to form a synergy to accelerate the discipline construction and enhance the influence of the School.

 

   Deputy dean Li Bo interpreted the training standards for outstanding engineers and comprehensively introduced the construction background, overall plan, core tasks, and necessity of the National Elite Institute of Engineering. Deputy Secretary Wu Di summarized the work in the establishment of good guidance relationships, further increasing the training of teachers for subject competition, student promotion, employment and mental health, comprehensively helping students grow and become successful. Deputy Dean Wen Guojun emphasized and explained on laboratory safety. Dean Ding Huafeng briefed on the construction of first-level doctoral program in mechanical engineering.

 

 

   Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee, made a concluding statement. First of all, he put forward suggestions for the pilot construction of the Elite Institute of Engineering: (1) strengthen the construction of national defense research capabilities to serve national strategic security, and strengthen cooperation with the Aviation University of Air Force to jointly establish electronic countermeasures and radar anti-interference laboratories; strengthen the construction of chip design and development research and development centers with AVIC, CETC and their subsidiaries, and establish a full process service system for talent transfer through “selection, education, management and delivery”; (2) strengthen the docking of regional industrial demand, serve the main battlefield of economic construction, strengthen the cooperation with Wuhan FiberHome Communication, Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable, Wuhan Cubic, Wuhan Jingce Electronic Group and other key industries and well-known enterprises under China Information Communication Technologies Group Corporation, and strengthen the joint research of core technologies and enhance the training of talents in the field of “neck-breaking” technologies; form a geological equipment research and development team to strength the high-end research and development of geological equipment with Shanghai Jintai, the research institutes under China Coal Technology & Engineering Group such as Xi’an Research Institute, CREG, Wuxi DRILLTO, Ningbo Haitian Group, etc. In addition, he put forward four requirements on how to use the construction of the Elite Institute of Engineering to promote the development of the School: (1) the leadership team of each department should organize teachers to have a common discussion and learn to understand the spirit; (2) every teacher should have a sense of urgency and action, and actively contribute to the development of the school; (3) revise the postgraduate (master, doctorate) training program, take advantage of the situation and strengthen the cooperation and connection with enterprises; (4) promote the construction of two double ten-thousand majors. Secondly, he put forward specific requirements student development, academic performance, mental health, employment, and subject competitions. Thirdly, he emphasized on the use of financial subsidy loan construction funds and discipline construction funds, and requested to effectively prevent the integrity risk of project construction, especially the various risks that may exist in the process of equipment acquisition and renovation, to ensure that the project construction achieves the expected results and really builds a platform for discipline development. Fourthly, he once again reiterates the significance of teacher ethics construction for the quality of postgraduate education, and emphasized that the School would normalize the promotion of teacher ethics cultivation, effectively improve the political standing of teachers, deepen the learning results, and continue to practice the original intention of moral education in practical work. Fifthly, we should actively seek support from the university, accelerate the pace of introducing high-level talents at the national level, and form a high-level talent system with sufficient quantity, reasonable layout and orderly connection as soon as possible, in order to accelerate the high-quality development of the school. Finally, all teachers should have a deep understanding of the importance of safety and stability work, strengthen position management, strictly implement the ideological work responsibility system, and enhance risk prevention awareness and skills; strengthen students’ mental health education, timely plug loopholes, and eliminate safety hazards. The leaders of the School should improve their political stance and strive to create a healthy, safe, civilized, harmonious, and orderly learning and living environment for teachers and students.
