(CUG News) The Party Committee of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, fully implements the spirit of the 20th National Congress of CPC, adheres to the educational philosophy of “education for people, moral education first”, insists on the “five in place” and “seven strong aspects” Party building work standards, and realizes the integration and promotion of “Party building - major - discipline - ideological and political education”. Since the 12th Party Congress of the University, the Party committee of the School has been closely focusing on the main line of “leading the high-quality development of the school with high-quality Party building”, implementing the “dual drive” scientific research idea of “applied research with strong features”, and actively exploring the development modes of “party building + science and technology innovation”, “party building + teacher virtue education” and “party building + service guarantee”. It has always put the leadership and core role of the Party in the construction of “first-class disciplines” and the whole process of high-quality development of the School, actively cooperate with the national strategic planning and policy requirements, accelerate the development and construction of “new engineering”, actively adapt to and lead the educational reform needs of the new economy, and strive to achieve the new situation of “five good”.

The Party Committee of the School has increased the proportion of young and middle-aged Party members among the staffing of teaching and research teams, set up a platform for seminars and exchanges among Party branch secretaries, Party members and young Party members, carried out lecture competitions on ideological and political theories teaching in all courses, and made efforts to improve teachers’ teaching skills on ideological and political theories teaching in all courses through interdisciplinary exchanges and “passing on experiences” by old Party members to old teachers.

The Party Committee of the School has always set the goal of “cultivating new engineering leading talents with strong innovation and practical abilities, as well as a combination of patriotism and international vision”, serving the growth and development needs of students and striving to achieve three “integration”. The School elaborately builds the “Road to a strong power in manufacturing” practical education system project, focusing on the strategic requirements of a strong power in manufacturing and in science and technology. Based on the needs of intelligent manufacturing industry for talents and the actual demands of students’ own growth and development, the School integrates various educational resources both inside and outside the university in accordance with its disciplinary advantages and characteristics, strengthens the linkage with key enterprises in the industry, and helps students to understand their historical mission, take up the responsibility of the times, strengthen scientific and technological innovation practice, and grow and become successful in all aspects.

In May 2021, the Youth League Committee of CUG and the School jointly hosted the Singing Star Competition for College Students with the theme of “Singing for the Youth at the Right Time”

In order to further enrich the student training system of the School, fully stimulate the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of students to participate in the lectures, and guide students to participate in the second classroom learning, the Party Committee of the School coordinates and incorporates the “My Growth in CUG” lecture series into the recognition of innovation and entrepreneurship credits as an effective extension of the ideological and political theories teaching in all courses in the second classroom, forming a good situation of organic integration of ideological and political education and training system. Since 2019, the Party Committee of the School has set up a special program for study visits abroad and organized three batches of special visits for a total of more than 60 people to help students expand their international horizons.

In the past five years, students of this School have achieved good results in many major professional competitions, such as the China College Students’ ‘Internet+’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the National “Challenge Cup” Undergraduate Extracurricular Science and Technology Works Competition, the National College Mechanical Innovation Competition, the Petroleum Equipment Innovation Design Competition, and the Electronic Design Competition, have won nearly 500 national, provincial and ministerial awards, and have presided over 280 innovation and entrepreneurship training programs. 15 entrepreneurship teams have registered their own companies, the employment rate of undergraduates has reached 95.48% and that of postgraduates has reached 100%. Over 500 students received various comprehensive honors including 2018 The Stars of Self-improvement of Chinese College Students, the 2020 China’s Positive and Kind-Hearted Young People, and Nomination of Chinese College Students for the Year 2020.

Party building + science and technology innovation

In the past five years, the School has introduced 20 talents of various types, twice as many as in the previous five years; 13 new professors and 20 doctoral supervisors. The School has received scientific research funds of over 80 million Yuan, three times as many as in the previous five years, with a breakthrough of 20 million Yuan in 2022, published 40 T1 papers, six times as many as in the previous five years, increased 10 new experimental platforms of various types and nearly 2,000 square meters of new physical space, and increased nine new joint graduate training bases. The discipline of mechanical engineering has been upgraded by two levels (from C to B -), and the discipline of information and communication has been upgraded by one level (from C - to C). Mechanical engineering has become an important part of the “Intelligent Geological Equipment” direction in the construction of “double first-class” disciplines of CUG, mechanical design, manufacturing and automation and electronic information engineering are the national “double first-class” construction majors, and communication engineering is a provincial “double first-class” construction major.

As a new engineering school with the main feature of “intelligent geological engineering equipment”, in recent years, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information has actively explored the new mode of “Party building + science and technology innovation”, run the Party’s leadership through the whole chain of science and technology innovation, promoted the deep integration of Party building and science and technology innovation, formed 8 science and technology innovation teams with Party members as the main force, given full play to the “double leaders” and “head geese” effect of branch secretaries, transformed the effectiveness of Party building into innovation efficiency, and formed a good situation of “promoting innovation with Party building and strengthening Party building with innovation”.

Research Team Layout

In the past five years, the School of Mechanical Engineering has been granted more than 40 projects, including National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Major Science and Technology Special Project, National Major Scientific Instrument and Equipment Development Special Sub-Project, Sub-Project of National Science and Technology Support Program and other projects supported by ministries and commissions, has won 3 provincial and ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards, and has been granted more than 200 national invention patents. In 2022, 7 research projects of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information were granted the National Natural Science Foundation of China, of which 6 were presided over by teachers as Party member. The three national key R&D programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology, one key project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one key equipment R&D project, one key R&D program of Hubei Province, and one key technology research and development project of Shenzhen are all presided over by teachers as Party member.

Party building + service guarantee

In the past five years, the Party Committee of the School has strengthened planning and taken the initiative to add 31 new internship training bases for undergraduates and 10 joint training bases for postgraduates, utilizing social and corporate resources to take advantage of the platform of internship practice bases, strengthening the precise docking with enterprises, continuously deepening the tripartite cooperation between university and enterprises and university and local government, and enhancing the research application capability of the School for enterprises. It has newly built 2 provincial and ministerial-level teaching and research platforms and 5 industrial technology innovation centers, completed the construction of “Home of Party Members” in 6 faculty branches, and initially completed the planning and layout of the talk room for student party members, providing a place for all faculty and student party members to study and communicate, further strengthened the fighting power, cohesion and organizational power of grass-roots party branches, and consolidated the fighting base of grass-roots party organizations. The School organized and coordinated the use of discipline construction, special repair and purchase funds, loan subsidies and other funds, and invested about 33 million Yuan and completed a number of new or updated teaching and research laboratories, to continue to improve the teaching and research hardware conditions of the School.

Guided by the People’s Government of Jiujiang District, the School cooperated with Kunpeng Talent Group to jointly build Wuhu Practice Base for College Students
