Love and Self-cultivation

[Reported by Chen Xueyan] On the afternoon of Apr. 13, this School held Year 2023 Teaching Competition of Young Teachers in Room B0108, Comprehensive Teaching Building. In the teaching competition, each department designated one young teacher as a representative to participate in the competition in form of specialty exchange. This School invited Professor Li Zhen from School of Materials Science and Chemistry, Professor An Jianqi from School of Automation, Professor Yang Fei from School of Mathematics and Physics, Professor Wu Guoping an instructional supervisor of CUG and Professor Ye Dunfan, an instructional supervisor of this School as the competition judges. The representatives of the professional teachersand all young teachers viewed and emulated the teaching competition on the site. The teaching competition was presided over by the deputy director Professor Li Bo.

Four young teachers kept to the syllabus, centered on the teaching objectives, and flexibly adopted multimedia means to completely represent the course sections, which passed on the professional knowledge and increased the learning fun as well, and fully revealed the teaching charm of the young teachers of this School.  

Teacher Liu Fuchu from Department of Mechanical Engineering related the characteristics and mechanism of casting macro solidified structure of Metal Technology. PPT integrated many cartoons and charts, the writing on the blackboard was clear, the contents were rich, popular and lucid. Teacher Zhong Liang from Department of Communications introduced C/C++Programming with a lively example and guided the students to learn one-dimension array with questions. The teaching was interesting, from the shallow to the deep, step by step, and closely paced. Teacher Xu Jie from Department of Industrial Design gave a wonderful demonstration of the Laws of Beauty in Form in the Fundamentals of Plastic Design, adopted the advertising videos to help students review the learning contents and arouse their interest. Combined with the pictures and graphs in PPT, through the classroom group discussion, students were guided to think and explore. Teacher Li Xiang from Department of Telecommunications presented the calculation of discrete channel capacity of Information Theory and Coding in the form of formula derivation, with rigorous PPT presentation, outstanding important and difficult points, and hierarchical course. The five judges commented on the teachers' presentations one by one, affirmed the wonderful points and advantages and characteristics, and at the same time, they gave guiding suggestions for the characteristics of each course and the problems in teaching.

Professor Li Zhen made a summary comment. She fully affirmed the performance of the participating teachers, and considered that the four teachers were well prepared, skilled in content, beautifully produced PPT and very passionate in teaching. At the same time, she put forward three suggestions for the competition: First, in terms of teaching design, it was suggested that teachers should design the course contents according to the teaching objectives, fully demonstrate the characteristics of the major and the course, better integrate the elements of thinking and government, and promote the "education of three alls" with higher quality. Second, as to the teaching contents, she stressed that the course content selected for the competition should closely follow the "two-characteristics and one-depth", not only to have theoretical depth, but also to make students easy to understand and master through case preferences. Third, as to the writing on the blackboard, she remind the contestants in the process of the competition to grasp the principles of the writing was the " the outline of the content", "the base of the focus", "the essence of the viewpoint" and the "sequence of the process".

Deputy Director Li Bo pointed out that teachers in School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information had a good tradition of loving teaching and attaching importance to teaching, and the many achievements achieved in specialty construction in recent years could not be separated from the hard work of the faculty and staff. Classroom teaching was one of the key core aspects of talent cultivation, how to stimulate students' interest in learning and form the transmission and re-creation of knowledge, thinking and innovation ability between teachers and students was an eternal issue in front of every educator, and we hoped that through this exchange and demonstration, we could further learn from each other, summarize and improve ourselves, continuously improve our teaching ability and strive to be the " Mr. Big".

According to the judges' scores, in Year 2023 Teaching Competition of Young Teachers of School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, Xu Jie and Zhong Liang won the first prize, and Liu Fuchu and Li Xiang won the second prize.
