We are determined to install the world’s first core automatic transmission system with independent intellectual property rights on China’s first ocean drilling ship; develop integrated drilling rescue technology and equipment system from surface to downhole to improve the efficiency of deep hole drilling rescue; develop all-electric multi-degree of freedom intelligent ultrasonic scalpel system to meet the needs of safety and dexterity of minimally invasive surgery, etc. Behind these scientific and technological innovations, it is the vivid practice of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information (hereinafter referred to as “this School”) in building the Party organization at the forefront of major tasks, so that the Party flag flies high in the main battlefield of scientific and technological innovation.
As a new engineering school with “intelligent geological engineering equipment” as its main feature, in recent years, this School has actively explored the new mode of "Party building + technical innovation", run the Party's leadership through the whole chain of science and technology innovation, promoted the deep integration of Party building and science and technology innovation, established a science and technology innovation team with Party members as the main force to absorb business backbones and technical experts, participated in national, local, provincial and municipal major scientific research projects, transformed the effectiveness of Party building into strong innovation efficiency, and formed a good situation of “promoting innovation with Party building and strengthening Party building with innovation”.
A group of party members, as scientific and technological workers, have shown their pioneer nature in hard fights and tests, and the Party Committee of this School has demonstrated its overall organizational power.
“I always feel that there is not enough time.” In January this year, after receiving the task of developing an automatic core transmission system for China's first ocean drilling vessel, a natural gas hydrate drilling and production vessel, Prof. Wen Guojun was deeply aware of the great responsibility.
For a long time, due to the lack of gas hydrate drilling and production vessels, foreign vessels have been leased for five gas hydrate drilling operations in China so far, and the exploration and pilot production of gas hydrate are “constrained by others”. In addition, the United States and Japan have dominated ocean drilling for a long time, which resulted in serious constraints on the development of China's earth sciences and brought huge potential risks to China's national defense and security, so the situation of leading the development of earth system science needs to be broken. Faced with the problem of heavy task and few staff, Prof. Wen Guojun quickly set up a scientific research team composed of more than 70 teacher and student party members to participate in the R&D and design of the project to overcome difficulties.
As a backbone member, Prof. Ge Mingfeng participated in “Autonomous Collaboration and Gaming of Hybrid Intelligent Unmanned System”, a key program of NSFC. The project breaks through the traditional research idea that multiple self-subject systems only aim at collaboration, and provides technical support for the understanding and design of intelligent offensive and defensive multidimensional unmanned systems.
As a key member, Prof. Han Guangchao participated in “Implementation of key processes for internal fine runner of integrated space propulsion system”, a sub-project of “Application demonstration of internal fine runner additive manufacturing in space propulsion field”, which is the National Key R&D Program. Aiming at the high-precision additive manufacturing challenges of key components of aerospace engines, the project develops the key process for rapid prototyping of internal fine runner.
Prof. Li Xiang, in cooperation with Fiberhome Communication Technology Co., Ltd, was granted the National Key R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology: “Low-cost, high-speed, short- and medium-range data center interconnection optical communication system”, a project under the key project of “Multimodal Network and Communication”. The project is oriented to the major frontier demand of national deep mine power disaster prevention and control and accident emergency rescue, and has important scientific significance in promoting the research and development and manufacturing level of China's deep earth exploration equipment.
The “Research and development of all-electric multi-degree of freedom intelligent ultrasonic scalpel system” jointly applied by Prof. Bai Wei and Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics and other units was approved as a Key Technology Project of Shenzhen. Focusing on the strategic background of localization of China’s high-end medical devices and breakthrough in “bottle-neck” key technology, the project plans to develop an all-electric multi-degree-of-freedom intelligent ultrasonic scalpel system. The breakthrough in the surgical system will be of great significance for promoting the development of China's ultrasonic minimally invasive surgery and single hole surgical robot industry.
In order to improve the organizational, cohesive and innovative power of teacher Party members, the Party Committee of this School, guided by the establishment of the faculty Party branch of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (the model Party branch of the University), gave full play to the “double leader” and “head goose” effect of the branch secretary, led the Party members to devote themselves to scientific research and achieved fruitful results. It is understood that since 2017, this School has been approved more than 40 projects, including programs supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Major Science and Technology Projects, Sub-Projects of National Major Scientific Instrument and Equipment Development Fund, Sub-Projects of National Science and Technology Support Program and other projects supported by national ministries and commissions, and has been awarded 4 Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards and more than 100 national invention patents. In 2022, 7 scientific research projects of this School are approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, of which 6 are for teacher Party members. Furthermore, among the three national key research and development plans of the Ministry of Science and Technology, one key project of the National Natural Science Foundation, one key equipment R&D project, one key R&D program of Hubei Province, and one key R&D program of Shenzhen, in which the teachers participate in 2022, 6 are undertaken by the party member team. At present, the total funds received have exceeded RMB 20 million yuan.
Focusing on the four aspects of “facing the frontier of world science and technology, facing the main battlefield of economy, facing the major national needs, and facing the people's life and health”, the Party Committee of this School actively implements the new strategy of university-enterprise collaborative innovation and industry-university-research cooperation to educate people. Members of the party committee took the lead to carry out in-depth study and research in enterprises. In 2022, they have led teachers and students to more than 20 enterprises and institutes for investigation and cooperation, such as Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., reached many agreements on industry-university-research cooperation, and built a practice base for college students in Wuhu.
In the report of the 20th CPC Party Congress, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that “science and technology is the primary productive force, talented person is the primary resource, innovation is the primary driving force”.
Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of this School, believes that only by strengthening ideals and beliefs can the actions of the research team be consciously coalesced to high-level scientific and technological innovation. He said that the Party Committee of this School will strengthen the political education, ideological training and spiritual baptism of teachers and research teams through various forms, and encourage more teacher and student party members to work hard and forge ahead in the main battlefield of scientific and technological innovation.
