(Reported by Chen Xueyan) In order to further promote the ideological and political education in all courses, realize the transformation from “discipline teaching” to “discipline education”, stay true to the original aspiration of education, keep in mind the mission of education, realize the unity of teaching and education, and truly implement the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and morality, this School held the “Ideological and Political Education in All Courses” teaching competition on the afternoon of October 20, 2022 at Room 301 of No.2 Teaching Building. Two teachers were selected respectively by the Department of Electronic Information, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Industrial Design and Department of Communication Engineering, and one teacher was selected by the Engineering Teaching Practice Center to participate in the teaching competition. Meng Xia, Deputy Dean of Undergraduate School, Wu Guoping, the University-level Supervisor, Ye Dunfan, the School-level Supervisor, Du Yu, the first prize winner of the University Lecture Competition for Young Teachers, and Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, were invited to provide guidance throughout the competition. All teachers of the School observed and communicated on site.
Li Bo, Deputy Dean in charge of teaching, presided over the competition. He pointed out that the competition in this year was held against two backgrounds. First, it coincided with the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Party has put forward new hopes and requirements for talents and science and technology In the new era, and this competition is to implement the specific spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in addressing science and technology and talents, and put the cultivation of virtues and morality into practice. Second, as a large school of undergraduate teaching, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information carried out the exchanges and discussions on ideological and political education in all courses at the 70th anniversary of CUG for the purpose of strengthening the mission and responsibility of teachers and integrating the system of core socialist values into the university education system.
In the competition, the nine participating teachers showed their own strengths and ideas. They integrated ideological and political content into the knowledge points from different perspectives in combination with the courses they taught or their teams as well as their teaching experience. Some teachers proposed the “3-5-3” teaching model, emphasizing the reshaping of the course, which was eye-catching; some teachers pointed out the need to unite knowledge and practice, to implement the combination of theory and practice, and to put education and teaching into practice; some teachers advocated to avoid turning ideological and political content into abrupt embedded advertisements, proposed to broaden the scope of ideological and political content, and committed to making ideological and political content more vivid and more acceptable; some teachers combined typical cases of the course with current affairs and policies and national security, and find students’ empathy to inspire their sense of responsibility and mission; some teachers proposed to integrate culture into the classroom, create a multi-dimensional and warm classroom, and truly realize the integration of ideological and political education and the course. All teachers showed their own style and characteristics in the competition.
Professor Wu Guoping, the university-level teaching supervisor, gave full recognition to the activity. He pointed out that the competition reflected the great importance that the School attached to the ideological and political education in all courses from various aspects such as organization, scale of participation and course design. From the teachers’ course presentation, we could see that all teachers were well prepared for this competition, and all the presentation links are carefully considered, which not only reflected the teachers’ national identity and moral ethics, but also realized the integration of ideological and political education into the course and education in teaching, achieving the effect of moistening things silently.
Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, finally made a concluding speech on the competition. He held that the presentation of ideological and political education in all courses touched him a lot. The teachers, both individually and as a team, were able to respond positively to the call of the state in their teaching, and well integrated the ideological and political elements with classroom teaching, especially some teachers, although they had not taught for a long time and had no teaching team, were able to give a lively lecture, which showed that they had made a lot of efforts. He also put forward two requirements for all teachers of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information. First, all teachers and teaching teams should continue to accumulate experience, innovate teaching methods, comprehensively promote the ideological and political education in all courses, and integrate ideological and political education into the course teaching, so as to truly implement the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and morality. Second, we should not only be consistent with the national policy, but also explore the ideological and political content from a professional perspective, avoid giving lectures for the sake of teaching, improve our own driving force, and carry out inheritance from a cultural perspective. We should not only give a good lesson, but also stay true to the original aspiration of education.
According to the on-site scoring by judges, Xu Linhong and Xu Jie won the first prize, Guo Hongxiang, Hao Guocheng and Han Guangchao won the second prize, and Zhang Xiangli, Li Xingmei, Tu Bo and Xiao Chang won the third prize.
