A Seminar on the Summary of Practice Teaching in Wuhu and the Revision of Training Programs of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information

On Sept. 28 to 29, the seminar on the summary of practice teaching and the revision of training programs of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information was held in Wuhu Practice Base for College Students. The seminar, taking the opportunity of the opening of Wuhu Practice Base for College Students and the summary of the first batch of 120 students’ practice, focused on the “deepening reform of practice teaching”, and discussed the major division for students of Grade 2022 and the revision of 2023 Training Program. This summary and seminar was led by Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the School, presided over by the Li Bo, Deputy Dean of the School, and attended by the main principals of each major and two teachers from the Academic Affairs Section.

On the afternoon of September 28, the team from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information visited and inspected the hardware conditions of Wuhu Practice Base for College Students, such as student dormitories, canteens and classrooms, and communicated with the person in charge of the base on the spot and made suggestions.

In the evening, each major held a seminar on the discipline-based major division for students of Grade 2022, and put forward specific tasks and requirements on how to further train students.

On the morning of September 29, Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee, participated in the opening ceremony of Wuhu Practice Base for College Students and the practice completion activities of the first batch of students on behalf of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information. Han Guangchao, the practice leader, issued the graduation certificate to the student representatives.

During the activity, two student representatives from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information made a summary speech on the practice for more than three months. He said that the enterprise practice and training in Wuhu organized by the School had provided a good condition for their practical ability and laid a solid foundation for their future development in society and enterprise. Li Bo, deputy dean in charge of teaching, made a speech on the completion of student practice. He pointed out that the opening of “Wuhu Practice Base for College Students” and the completion ceremony of the first batch of students’ practice marked a new step in the “government-industry-university-research-application” based cooperation between the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of China University of Geosciences and Wuhu, as well as with many enterprises in Wuhu, and it was also a useful exploration for China University of Geosciences and Wuhu to expand the cooperation fields and accelerate the development.

After ceremony, representatives of Wuhu Municipal Government, representatives of the base, representatives of the School, student representatives and some enterprise representatives had in-depth communication and discussion to summarize experience, find problems and propose countermeasures for this practice.

On the afternoon of September 29, each major held a special discussion on the problems in the development of the 2023 Training Program, focusing on the connection between deepening reform of practice teaching and the training program. At the end of the meeting, Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee, put forward three requirements for practice teaching and the revision of training programs for all majors. First, the revision of 2023 Training Program should fully integrate all kinds of practice teaching, reasonably arrange the connection between theoretical courses and practical courses, which can be done by remote and flexible means, to not only complete the training objectives and requirements for students, but also reasonably solve the problem of insufficient internship hours proposed by enterprises. Second, in view of the problems raised by enterprises and students in the seminar and the problems reflected by students and instructors in the preliminary practice, each major should, in the later internship docking, make the pre-arrangement for the post targets according to the teaching program of practice courses. Third, through the echelon and team building of teachers and students, all majors should realize the government-industry-university-research based in-depth cooperation, integrating scientific research, teaching and practice, so as to further deepen the integration of industry education and science education, and achieve a win-win with enterprises.
