This School and Dongguan Kobarry Automation Technology Co., Ltd. Established the “Industrial Vision Inspection Industry Technology Innovation Center”

On July 12, Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, Guo Haixiang, Deputy Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology Development, Professor Wen Guojun and Associate Professor Mei Shuang, deputy deans of School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, and He Xin, Branch Secretary of Experimental Center of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), went to Dongguan Tarry Electronics Co., Ltd. for exchange and held the signing ceremony of “Industrial Visual Inspection Industry Technology Innovation Center”. It aims to promote the R&D and transformation of key technologies on both sides, take the industrial technology innovation center as a medium to organize the school and enterprises to accelerate the R&D of key and forward-looking technologies through independent R&D and joint research, and to actively promote the industrialization of relevant new technological achievements.

 Dongguan Tarry Electronics Co., Ltd., founded in 2003, specializes in the production of precision die cutting products, foam protective film tape, insulation heat conduction products and assembly automation equipment. Products are widely used in FPC flexible circuit board, OLED backlight display module, plastic shell, solar photovoltaic, power battery, audio headset, VR/AR and other electronic and electrical industries. The company is an industry leader in 3C manufacturing field and a national high-tech enterprise. Dongguan Kobarry Automation Technology Co., LTD., founded in early 2016, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dongguan Tarry Electronics Co., LTD. The company is headquartered in Hongmei Town, Dongguan, with its own industrial park. Kobarry Automation is dedicated to consumer electronics, high-end equipment, digital manufacturing industry applications, research and development, production, sales as one, to provide customers with one-stop solutions for intelligent equipment enterprises. 

The School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information and Kobarry Automation Technology Co., LTD. have a good early-stage cooperative relationship. Since 2020, the team of Prof. Wen Guojun of the School has conducted several technical seminars with Tarry Electronics, and signed relevant research projects on defect detection of parts in 3C field. In June 2021, CUG established the joint training base for graduate students with Dongguan Kobarry Automation Technology Co., LTD. Since 2021, several graduate students from our School have interned at Tarry Electronics every year, so that students could directly face the needs of enterprises and solve their practical problems.

In order to further deepen the industry-university-research cooperation between the university and enterprises, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information and Kobarry Automation Technology Co., LTD. under Tarry Electronics jointly establish the “Industrial Visual Inspection Industry Technology Innovation Center”. At the signing ceremony of the exchange and industrial technology innovation center, first of all, under the leadership of Pan Yunfeng, Senior Director of Kobarry, and relevant principals of Kobarry, the school staff visited the relevant advanced manufacturing production lines of Tarry Electronics and Kobarry automation technology research and development center, and conducted in-depth discussions on the visual defect detection problems that need to be solved in the existing production lines.

 

 After the visit, the two sides held a signing ceremony for the Industry Technology Innovation Center. The meeting started with a presentation by Pan Yunfeng, Senior Director of Dongguan Tarry Electronics and General Manager of Kobarry Automation Technology, who introduced the development history of Tarry Electronics and the development and planning of Kobarry Automation on behalf of Tarry Electronics.

 

After that, Guo Haixiang, the Deputy Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology Development of CUG, made a speech on behalf of the Institute of Science and Technology Development. He introduced the policies and intentions of CUG on the cultivation of scientific and technological innovation talents, team building and scientific research base construction, and the earnest hope that enterprises and the university will jointly carry out long-term and in-depth cooperation to realize "industry-university-research-application".

 

 Then, Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, delivered a speech on behalf of the School. He introduced the basic information of the School, expressed his confidence and expectation for this cooperation, and emphasized that for engineering colleges and universities, it was of profound practical significance to apply research to the actual needs of enterprises and carry out scientific research for the actual problems of enterprises, which not only created value for the research results of teachers, but also cultivated the students’ ability to solve practical problems.

 

Professor Wen Guojun, Deputy Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, also introduced the strengths of the School and related professional research directions, summarized the preliminary results of the cooperation between the two sides, and gave an outlook on further cooperation in the subsequent research and personnel training.

 

On behalf of the School, Associate Professor Mei Shuang reported on the cooperation projects and the establishment of the Industry Technology Innovation Center, introduced the background and significance of the creation of the Center, described the organizational structure and basic system of the Innovation Center, and also clearly put forward the main objectives and potential cooperation projects of the Innovation Center.

 

Finally, Professor Wen Guojun, Deputy Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, and Fu Huarong, General Manager of Dongguan Tarry Electronics signed the cooperation agreement of "Industrial Vision Inspection Industry Technology Innovation Center".

 

 Intelligent transformation is the key to building a strong manufacturing country, and machine vision technology is an important part of the industrialized layout of intelligent manufacturing, which triggers and drives the change of intelligent manufacturing. Machine vision technology is widely applied in the vision inspection industry represented by electronics manufacturing, semiconductor production, 3C product surface quality control, parts quality control (panel printing quality, character inspection, work-piece surface defect detection, and free-form surface inspection), pharmaceutical packaging, etc. The establishment of “Industrial Vision Inspection Industry Technology Innovation Center” with Dongguan Kobarry Automation Technology Co., LTD. is of profound significance. Based on the Innovation Center, we will set up an university-enterprise cooperation platform" for “industry-academia-research-application”, bring together the R&D, manufacturing and technical teams of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information and Kobarry to promote new product development, new technology research and innovative talent training, realize resource sharing and promote the integration of industry and education. It will build the scientific research and innovation platform, improve scientific research capability and scientific innovation ability, transform advanced theoretical methods into new technologies, develop new basic engineering equipment products, and realize the transformation of scientific and technological achievements through collaborative innovation mechanism. In addition, it will provide a platform for teachers to improve their scientific and technological innovation ability and cultivate excellent talents, and will also improve the theoretical level and innovation ability through the combination of industry, university and research, and provide talent support for the development of new technologies and new products for enterprises.
