With regard to the scientific research, Center of Scientific and Technical Development would adopt questionnaire survey and investigation for warming-up to seek opinions and suggestions on the  scientific and technological innovation work from the majority of scientific and technological workers, and lay a solid foundation for building a high-quality scientific and technological innovation system and continuously promoting the development of the scientific and technological undertakings of CUG.

Dean Ding Huafeng made a speech first, and he suggested that: CUG should establish an interdisciplinary team; Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory was urgently needed for the application of doctoral programs in this School; each discipline should have papers published in T1 journals; and focus on non-government-sponsored projects to serve national and local strategies. Other teachers gave speeches respectively, and put forward their own suggestions on the development of disciplines, joint development of multiple disciplines, assessment standards and distribution of scientific research results, how to give full play to the role of the outstanding young teachers, and journal classification. In terms of discipline construction, Huang Tianye, Zhang Jing, Li Xiang and other teachers proposed that information and communication engineering lacked a scientific research platform; Huang Tianye and other teachers proposed that China University of Geosciences (Beijing) had newly added an undergraduate major “Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering” in the Ministry of Education. They hoped that CUG paid more attention to the optoelectronics industry in terms of undergraduate majors and scientific research . In terms of joint multi-disciplinary development, Wen Guojun, Chen Xiaoli and other teachers pointed out that this School had significant advantages in manufacturing and design and they hoped that CUG could provide opportunities to show the professional advantages of this School in applying for major projects, and establish a cross-disciplinary research team on this basis. Wen Guojun, Ge Mingfeng, etc. all pointed out that the group of outstanding young teachers in this School was constantly expanding, and how to bring into play the young teachers’ role also needed to be urgently solved, and they looked forward to more support from CUG. In terms of assessment standards and distribution of scientific research results, Wen Guojun and other teachers suggested that team assessments could be taken into account to further subdivide the contribution of scientific research results. Teachers such as Cao Wenao mentioned that the classification of journals was not reasonable enough , and suggested that they should be classified according to the disciplines .

After listening to the opinions and suggestions of the teachers from this School, Hu Xiangyun, Executive Deputy Director of Center of Scientific and Technical Development, gave an on-site feedback on the relevant appeals: strongly supporting the mechanical discipline to apply for Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory, and suggested that the information and communication engineering discipline should apply for the platform of the Engineering Center from the National Development and Reform Commission; he also discussed how to integrate new and outstanding young teachers into the development and construction of this School and CUG; quickly starting the adjustment of journal classification.
