An Investigation on the Construction of Off-campus Government-Industry-University-Research Base in Wuhu

In order to adapt to the requirements of the new engineering, strengthen the university-enterprise cooperative education and industry-university-research cooperation, improve the quality of talent training, and further deepen the reform of undergraduate practical teaching, the School actively promotes the construction of off-campus industry-university-research bases, breaks the shortage of resources, and makes full use of social resources for open school-running. From January 9 to 11, 2022, Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, and Li Bo, Deputy Dean in charge of teaching, led a group of 14 persons in charge of various majors and internship to Wuhu for field investigation. During the investigation, they visited Wuhu Industrial Entrepreneurship Center, and researched and visited enterprises such as Tianhang Group, EFORT, Longshen Robotics, Chery, BiTECH Automotive Co., Ltd and UAES. This event was highly valued and strongly supported by Yang Zhibin, Standing Committee Member and Head of Organization Department of Wuhu City, Fang Zhong, Party Secretary of Jiujiang District, Yang Shaohua, Chairman of Wuhu Talent Development Group, Liu Xuedong, Standing Committee Member and Head of Organization Department of Jiujiang District, and Feng Zhong, Deputy Head of Jiujiang District Government, as well as assisted by Shenzhen Pengcheng Holding Group, Kunpeng Talent (Shenzhen) Development Company Limited and the CUG Shenzhen Research Institute.

EFORT is a listed company on the science and technology innovation board, a vice chairman unit of China Robotics Industry Alliance, a TOP China Robotics enterprise, and one of the Chinas top 100 Intelligent Manufacturing Enterprises. EFORT is one of the first echelon industrial robot companies in China, providing customers with industrial robot products and cross-industry intelligent manufacturing solutions.

Third stop: Chery Automobile Co., Ltd

Chery always insists on independent innovation, and has built more than ten production and KD bases at home and abroad, and six R&D centers in Wuhu, Shanghai, Europe and other regions and countries. It has formed a relatively complete product development system from R&D to trial production and testing for traditional cars, new energy cars and intelligent cars.

Fourth stop: BiTECH Automotive Co., Ltd and United Automotive Electronic Systems Co., Ltd

BiTECH is mainly engaged in the design, development and production of automotive electronic products such as automotive instrumentation, automotive display and module, automotive wireless terminal, intelligent gateway, driving monitoring system and head-up display, and is a national hi-tech enterprise with complete industry qualification and mature R&D and manufacturing system.

After the in-depth investigation and visit to the enterprises, the teachers had a new understanding of the concept of Wuhu government-industry-university-research base construction, and put forward their views on how to deepen the practical teaching reform of the School in the future.

 In the discussion with enterprises, the local government has repeatedly proposed that it hoped to build Wuhu government-industry-university-research base by cooperating with the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of China University of Geosciences, take the practice and internship training as an opportunity to let talents understand Wuhu, love Wuhu and take root in Wuhu through cooperative education, and open the talent bottleneck of development in Wuhu and lay a foundation for enterprises to introduce more high-end talents. The enterprises also showed great enthusiasm for the construction of the base. They not only welcomed the undergraduates from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information to come to the enterprises for internship and training, but also were willing to form R&D teams with the teachers and postgraduates from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information to inject new vitality into the innovation and development of the enterprises.

Through cooperation with Wuhu Municipal Government, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information hopes to deeply integrate the undergraduate talents training of various majors with the production and research and development of enterprises, and deeply integrate professional practice with curriculum ideological and political education, so as to build a nationwide influential and interdisciplinary new engineering and political Industry-University-Research base, realize the docking of traditional theoretical teaching and new technology, really improve the practical ability and scientific research ability of students and teachers, and serve the social and economic development.
