On October 17, the "Joyful Youth" basketball game hosted by the Graduate Student Union of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) officially kicked off. The purpose of this basketball game is to create a platform for all new graduate students to communicate with each other and to enrich their after-school life by getting them out of the lab during the interval of their daily research work.

There were 12 graduate students representing the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic, they were No. 10 Xiang Junkui, No. 11 Ma Weijie, No. 12 Li Xiaojun, No. 16 Li Haowei, No. 19 Xu Haifeng, No. 23 Wu Shihao, No. 25 Zhou Kang, No. 27 Lin Yurun, No. 33 Duan Xiudong, No. 34 Fu Gang, No. 39 Wang Xiaolin, and No. 44 Su Shaoquan.

 

 

 

The First Match

The opponent of the first match was School of Public Administration and this was the opening match of School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information. The final score was at 37:35, and School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information won the opening game. After the game, the team members summarized their experiences in time.

On November 1, the final match came as scheduled, and the rival of School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information was School of Geography and Information Engineering. This game was particularly noteworthy. Qu Xianghua, the secretary of the Party Committee of our school, and the counselors Du Yu, Ding Yufeng and Mamat also came to the scene to cheer for the athletes together.

Our No.23 player Wu Shihao received a pass from his teammate and hit the basket one after another, opening up the score and giving our team the advantage in the first quarter. After the first quarter, the score was 19:13. At the beginning of the second quarter, the opponent's players were much more patient after adjustment than in the first quarter, and they kept conducting the ball and looking for the best shot opportunity. Our players continued the play of the first quarter, No. 10 Xiang Junkui and No. 19 Xu Haifeng were positioned at 45 degree corners on both sides outside the three-point line, and used position warfare to attack the opponent's defense. No.10 Xiang Junkui and No.19 Xu Haifeng ran without the ball to attract the defensive pack, then No.27 Lin Yurun took the opportunity to stuff the ball into the hands of No.23 Wu Shihao who was waiting for a long time in the box, and the latter easily hit the basket. In such a fierce game, there was no room for laxity, as the opposing players were repeatedly robbed by our players when dribbling across the half-court, and every ball was broken crisply, which gave us more chances to attack. The ball was passed to the front court, and our No. 10 player Xiang Junkui pocketed another 3-point shot. With this kind of offense, we pulled the score to 47:33 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the opponent had much momentum to catch up with the score, but our players always responded when the opponent scored. With the final whistle, the game was over and the score was set at 61:52. We won the championship!
