In order to further implement the Party's education policy and promote the in-depth development of teaching morality construction activities in our School, on the afternoon of October 14, the School invited Professor Meng Dawei from the School of Materials and Chemistry of our University to make a special report, aiming to strengthen the teaching morality construction in our School, carry forward and practice the core socialist values, guide teachers to consciously respect morality and cultivate themselves, mobilize the enthusiasm and initiative of teachers to teach and educate people, and vigorously create a strong atmosphere of respecting teachers and attaching importance to teaching. The study activity was presided over by Comrade Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School.
Professor Meng Dawei made his report in three parts. The first part mainly introduced the advanced deeds of Huang Danian, his classmate in university. Huang Danian, a graduate of Jilin University and the University of Leeds, UK, is an internationally renowned strategic scientist and a renowned Chinese geophysicist who was selected for the national talent program. Twelve years ago, Huang Danian gave up his generous offer in the UK and returned to his homeland with a passion for patriotism to become a professor and doctoral supervisor in the School of Earth Exploration Science and Technology at Jilin University. In eight years, he led the team to achieve a series of achievements in aviation geophysics. Professor Meng Dawei believes that heroes are never accidental. When graduating from university, Huang Danian wrote in his graduation message to his classmates "Revitalizing China is our responsibility", which formed a stark contrast with the messages of other students, highlighting Huang Danian's determination to serve his country as a young man. After returning to China, he did not forget his original intention, and while completing his heavy scientific tasks, he personally trained a number of scientific research talents and was loved by his students. However, sadly, due to being in charge of several research projects at the same time and the daily lack of attention to his illness, he was eventually overwhelmed with the heavy burden.
The second part told about the advanced deeds of Deng Jiaxian, the "hero of two bombs". After finishing his study in the United States, Deng Jiaxian also resolutely chose to return home. Later, he was assigned to work on the development of the hydrogen bomb, which was kept strictly confidential by the state. From then on, his name disappeared from publications and external contacts, and his figure only appeared in the strictly guarded deep yard and the desert Gobi, and even his family did not know what he had been working on for 30 years. However, there was an accident in one of the development process, the hydrogen bomb that should have exploded did not explode, and Deng Jiaxian personally took the lead to find the broken hydrogen warhead. Eventually, his life came to an end due to the influence of long-term nuclear radiation.
In the third part, Professor Meng told the story of Wuhan's fight against COVID-19 based on his own personal experience. During the outbreak of COVID-19, Professor Meng was moved to tears when washing the news reports for many times as he felt the power of the country. He believed that another important lesson from our success in fighting COVID-19 was that the central government sent a steering group to Wuhan to coordinate the deployment of materials across the country and empathize with the people of Wuhan. Professor Meng Dawei appealed to all teachers to be ambitious, down-to-earth, undertake the mission and responsibility of teachers, closely link personal struggle with national development, be ready to wait for the call of the motherland and work hard for the rise of China! Finally, Deputy Dean Li Bo presented flowers to Professor Meng on behalf of the teachers of the whole school and took a group photo.
In the warm atmosphere, Qu Xianghua, the secretary of our School, presided over the retirement ceremony. Qu Xianghua expressed his high respect and sincere blessings to the three teachers, Ye Dunfan, Cai Jianping and Chen Han, thanking them for dedicating their youthful years to education and highly praising the teachers' practical and silent dedication work style and attitude.
After the ceremony, Secretary Qu Xianghua delivered a speech. He stressed that the teaching morality construction was of great importance to the construction and development of the faculty, that teachers in the new era must have a strong sense of social responsibility and dedication, and that teachers should have a benevolent heart while improving their quality in the professional field. He encouraged all teachers not only to uphold a strict style of governance, but also to establish a good teacher-student relationship, to infect, inspire and influence students with the power of example and charisma, to be both strict and "gentle", and to actively build a harmonious and harmonious atmosphere of mutual respect and love in education and teaching, and asked each three-level unit to regularly organize the study of the national documents on the construction of teaching morality. Comrade Qu Xianghua also raised expectations for young faculty members, hoping that they would have a sense of responsibility and urgency, actively apply for national funding projects, make up for the shortcomings of our research, and contribute to the declaration of the first-class doctoral degree in our school. Comrade Qu Xianghua stressed that the next step of the school should take the opportunity of declaring the first-level discipline doctoral degree and accelerating the construction of mechanical engineering discipline, carefully sort out and summarize the deficiencies and gaps, align with the conditions for the declaration of doctoral degree, further condense the discipline direction, fully explore and integrate the resources on campus, and improve the discipline construction and degree construction. In addition, he put forward specific requirements for the construction of party style and integrity, pointing out that teachers should regulate the use of research funds, adhere to the principles of normality and legality, enhance their own integrity, operate and implement in strict accordance with national laws and regulations as well as the university's system, and truly build a platform for discipline development.
