Studying Hard and Seeking for Truth at the Right Time and Setting Sail for A New Journey

“I will be ambitious and care for the motherland; I will love the university and the School, cultivate the morality and keep the thinkings noble; I will be united, friendly, faithful and honest…..” The incoming undergraduates in Grade 2021 in School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information solemnly took an oath in the name of youth and set sail for a new journey with the attitude of struggle.

At 7: 00 pm on September 24, the opening ceremony of incoming undergraduates of this School in 2021 was held grandly in Room 109, No. 3 Teaching Building. The leaders of this School, department heads and secretaries, class teachers of the incoming undergraduates, teachers of the student affairs working group, assistant class teachers and all undergraduates in Grade 2021 attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Du Yu, the secretary of the Youth League Committee.

The ceremony kicked off amid the national anthem sung by teachers and students.

On behalf of teachers and students of this School, Professor Ding Huafeng, the Dean of this School extended a warm welcome to the incoming undergraduates. He pointed out that as youth representatives in the new era, students should inherit the spirits of this School, consolidate the basic knowledge, challenge themselves and explore the future. He hoped that the students would take morality first and carry forward the spirit of struggle; stick to the faith and strive for excellence; accumulate richly and break forth vastly and temper their professional quality and make achievements of the life chapter in the new era of dream-seeking.

Wu Rangzhong, the representative of the class teachers, put forward three expectations for the incoming undergraduates. He expected them to persist in self-discipline and combine exertion and rest; be sunshiny and united, think independently; be brave in taking responsibility and innovation. He hoped that the incoming undergraduates should succeed in their studies in the new learning stage and contribute to the country's construction and development.

Yang Chenhao, a senior student representative shared his experience in the university life. He hoped that his younger brothers and sisters could plan well and live up to their youth, do not forget the original aspiration in the struggle; enjoy and love life and fly the dreams in the new journey and and live up to the youth. Chen Kaifu, a representative of the incoming undergraduates, in combination with his own personal experience, expressed his desire to devote himself to scientific innovation and contribute to China. He called on the students to practice their responsibilities with actions and inject youthful strength into the development of the cause of the Party and the country amid the conjunction of two centennial goals.

Deputy Dean Li Bo, read the military training commendation decision. He affirmed the students' fine conduct of not fearing hardship and tiredness during military training, and called on all students to learn the spirit of not fearing hardships and tenacious struggle, carry forward the tradition of being diligent in specialized research and brave in innovation, and strive for greater achievements. And then, Deputy Dean Li Bo and Huang Tianye, presented honorary certificates to 43 advanced individuals in military training.

In particular, the ceremony arranged the award ceremony of class teachers and assistant class teachers for the undergraduates in Grade 2021. In recent years, this School has attached great importance to the team building of class teachers, given full play to the key role of class teachers in guiding the healthy growth of students, and constantly improved the initiative, standardization and effectiveness of class teachers' work by improving the system, strengthening incentives and strengthening training. At the ceremony, Dean Ding Huafeng and the incoming undergraduate counsellor Ding Yufeng presented the letters of appointment to the  class teachers and assistant class teachers respectively.

Under the leadership of Min Yulang, Kong Tieru and Xu Yongkun, all undergraduates of Grade 2021 raised their right fists and solemnly swore. The students were firm in tone and loud in voice, and expressed their determination to strive for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with the pledge of youth.

This year marks the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). At the end of the ceremony, all teachers and students stood up and sang "Without the Communist Party, there would be no New China". In the loud and exciting singing, the teachers and students of this School celebrated the centennial birthday of the Party together and wished the motherland more prosperity. In the future study and life, they would also declare with practical actions: Please rest assured that a strong country has me!
