On June 26, at the invitation of the School, associate professor Wang Bo from Central South University delivered a special academic report on the “Research of Photoacoustic Tomography and Endoscopic Imaging Algorithm Based on the Sound Field Characteristics of Transducers” in Conference Room 301 of No.2 Teaching Building. The symposium was presided over by Professor Song Chaolong of this School, and the teachers and more than 70 graduate students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Electronic Information attended the symposium.

Wang Bo, associate professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering of School of Basic Medical Science, Central South University, is mainly engaged in the research on photoacoustic imaging, optical coherence tomography, and other optical imaging systems, reconstruction algorithms, and applications. Currently, he is in charge of a program supported by NSFC Youth Fund, has published more than ten SCI papers in this field as the first and corresponding author, and obtained 5 national invention patents.

In this symposium, Associate Professor Wang Bo explained that the selection of scanning mode and the image reconstruction algorithm used in photoacoustic imaging played a decisive role in the quality of the final image. However, most of the existing reconstruction algorithms failed to fully consider the sound field characteristics of the ultrasonic transducer, resulting in artifacts on the image. In the representation, he proposed a variety of sound field correction methods suitable for flat probe and focused probe, which were applied in photoacoustic tomography and photoacoustic endoscope imaging, and significantly improved the image resolution and signal-to-noise ratio. He made a comparative analysis of the characteristics of different algorithms, and discussed the influence of scanning method on the resolution, signal-to-noise ratio and image characteristics of the final image.

After the presentation, Associate Professor Wang Bo had an in-depth academic discussion with the teachers and students, which further enhanced the students’ understanding of photoacoustic tomography and endoscopic imaging algorithms.
