An Academic Report Delivered by Dr. Lian Zhenggang

In order to activate the academic atmosphere, encourage theoretical research and academic innovation, and promote the construction and development of electronic information discipline, Dr. LIan Zhenggang delivered an academic report entitled “Key Technologies Affecting the Development of Special Optical Fiber” in our School on October 28. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Dean Huang Tianye and all teachers and postgraduates attended the meeting.

Lian Zhenggang, received the bachelor's degree and doctor's degree in electronic engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK, is now the technical director of Wuhan Changyingtong Optoelectronic Technology Co., Ltd. and is the deputy editor in chief of OQE international magazine. He was awarded the "Interdisciplinary Training Award" of the University of Nottingham and enjoys the special government allowance of the State Council. With nearly 15 years of experience in glass material synthesis, special optical fiber preparation and performance testing, Dr. Lian Zhenggang has built Hubei Special Optical Fiber Engineering Technology Research Center, established a complete special fiber development and application system, developed nearly 50 kinds of special optical fiber products supporting lasers and sensors, and obtained the provincial scientific and technological achievements appraisal.

This report is composed of three parts. The first part introduces the development of glass materials and their roles in various applications. Through the specific case of miniaturized fiber optic gyroscope, the second part introduces the design, development and strength verification of PMF in detail, and demonstrates the attitude control function and field slope detection effect. The third part updates the recent technical development of our company in the special optical fiber and supporting fields.

The report delivered by Dr. Cai Boaguo provided rich theoretical knowledge and practical experience, and he answered relevant questions raised by postgraduates after the report.
