(Reporter: Liu Yufeng, Yan Yingying; Photographer: Xu Yongjian) In order to actively respond to the arrangement of the University on discussion of the school-running ideas of "improving the governance capacity, deepening comprehensive reform, and promoting the construction of research-oriented university", understand and listen to the young students’ opinions and suggestions on the education and teaching reform and development, make full preparation for the “14th five year” development plan of the School and improve the education quality, our School organized a special discussion on school-running ideas at Room 308, No. 2 Teaching Building at 14:30 p.m. on October 15. Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of our School, Yu Xiaozhou, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Li Bo, Deputy Dean, Du Yu, Secretary of the Youth League Committee, Liu Meng, graduate teaching secretary, and student representatives from all grades attended the forum. The forum was presided over by Du Yu.
16 student representatives, combined with their own learning and work experience, made speeches actively focusing on the five dimensions of school management excellence, education excellence, academic excellence, cultural excellence and guarantee excellence. The students put forward suggestions and offered good ideas on key issues such as education and teaching reform, expansion of students' international vision, laboratory construction, integration of production, teaching and research, cultivation of students' scientific and technological innovation team, practice and training, interdisciplinary communication, propaganda and ideological work, mental health education. Some graduate representatives hoped that the School should make full use of laboratory resources and open more experimental equipment to promote the sharing of academic resources. They also hoped that the School could strive to build a distinctive and effective academic team and concentrate on major events. Some undergraduate representatives hoped that the School would increase the guidance and support for undergraduate scientific and technological innovation, promote inter-professional learning and exchange, and they also put forward suggestions on the cultivation and incentive of student cadres
Li Bo expressed his gratitude to all the students for their positive suggestions. He hoped that they could put forward more targeted suggestions and measures according to their own experience and thinking, and regularly communicate with the teachers.
Yu Xiaozhou said that the School has made corresponding adjustments and improvements on some issues, and introduced in detail the reform efforts made by the School in promoting the cultivation of international talents, strengthening ideological propaganda and cultivating student cadres in recent years. She pointed out that it is an important part of talent training to cultivate the students' subject interest and international vision; in view of the problems raised by students, the School would seek solutions in time, and provide better conditions for students' growth and development by integrating resources and strengthening system guarantee. She hopes that the students could further pool their wisdom consensus, improve their sense of ownership, and continue to offer suggestions and strategies for the development of the School.
Qu Xianghua fully affirmed the significance of this forum in his concluding speech, and made responses and answers to some of the questions. He stressed that the discussion on school-running ideas should focus on the fundamental problem of who to train, how to train and for whom. In recent years, the School has attached great importance to the development demands of students' growth and development, strengthened top-level design, integrated various resources, promoted teaching reform, and created better conditions for students' learning and scientific research. He pointed out that the labs were under adjustment and would be open to all students after the adjustment to meet the needs of students for scientific research and academic exchanges. The School would further accelerate the "production, teaching and research" construction, establish close relationship with relevant enterprises, identify the industry needs, establish practice and training bases, and effectively combine the talent training objectives with the development of students and social needs. He said that the School would fully adopt the students’ opinions, improve the teaching mechanism and adjust the allocation of resources. He also hoped to hear the most authentic demands and aspirations of students, and hoped that the teachers and students would make contributions to the reform and development of the School.
