(Reporter: Xu Linhong, Zhang Fan) The Ninth National Metallographic Skills Competition for College Students (Final) ended in Taiyuan University of Technology on October 14. A total of 290 universities and 869 participants participated in the competition. After the fierce competition in the second round and the final, the team composed of Jiang Longhui, Tong Yiran and Tan Jiaheng from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of our University won the first prize of national group award, one first prize two second prizes for individual with the result of ranking seventh in China. At the same time, Jiang Longhui won the first "LEICA" award with the personal achievement ranked fifth since the universities’ participation in the competition from Hubei Province. Xu Linhong and Zhao Quan, two advisors from School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, won the award of "Excellent Advisor" in the competition.
Due to the impact of COVID-19, students were unable to return to school. In July, Xu Linhong and Zhao Quan carried out the online preliminary selection according to the students’ operational theory knowledgeSeven students, including Jiang Longhui, were selected from more than 30 students for later training. After returning to school on September 4, they began to practice the whole set of sample preparation process, including grinding, polishing, corrosion and microscopic observation. On September 18, after four rounds of competition selection in our University, Jiang Longhui, Tong Yiran and Tan Jiaheng were qualified for the national competition.
It is reported that the National Metallographic Skills Competition for College Students was originally a competition for college students jointly sponsored by Tsinghua University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Tianjin University, National University of Defense Technology, etc. In August 2015, the Teaching Guidance Committee of Materials Major in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education officially issued a document an decided to be the organizer of the competition to provide specific guidance for the organization of the competition. Since then, the National Metallographic Skills Competition for College Students has become a national competition for college students recognized by the relevant departments of the Ministry of Education. At present, the competition has been approved to be included in the national competition list of ordinary colleges and universities.
