[News] The Third Student Congress of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information was Held

Qu Xianghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Wu Di, deputy secretary of the Youth League Committee, Yu Xiaozhou, deputy secretary of the Party committee, Dai Dehong, representative of student union, teachers of students’ affairs group, representatives of all undergraduate students and graduate students attended the meeting.

The congress began with the solemn national anthem.

Qu Xianghua delivered the opening speech. He said that, under the leadership of the Party committee, based on the reality of the School and by focusing on the students’ development and bold reform and innovation, all league organizations had made great contributions to the growth and development of students in the past year. He pointed out that, through this conference, we should summarize the work achievements of the student union and the graduate union in the past year, analyze the development direction of the student union under the reform background, listen to and collect the common needs and practical difficulties of students in academic development, physical and mental health, social integration and rights and interests protection, and earnestly service for ideological guidance and growth of the students in our School, which was of great significance to cultivate new engineering leading talents in building a socialist modern country. He stressed that student representatives should implement the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, improve their political standing, base on discipline characteristics, focus on professional improvement and serve the development of students, and earnestly perform their duties as representatives. He hoped that the student union should continue to deepen the reform, act around the overall situation, and contribute to the cultivation of socialist builders and successors with all-around development of morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics and labor.

Dai Dehong read out the approval document and delivered a speech on behalf of the student union of the University. She pointed out that the student union should grasp the new requirements of the new era, make continuous progress and spare no effort to serve the growth and development of students, and hoped that all student representatives would take this conference as an opportunity to make suggestions, so as to jointly build a bright future for our School.

At the first plenary session of the Congress, Zhang Yiyi, a presidium member of the 2019 student union, made a work report entitled "Setting sailing for innovation and forge ahead in the trend of reform, and contributing the  power of youth to the new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way". The report systematically reviewed and summarized the main work and basic experience of the student union since the Second Student Congress, and put forward the planning proposals for the future development direction and related work of student union. She called on all students to be the pioneers and devotees in the forefront of the times, stay true to the original aspiration and keep in mind the mission,  and fight bravely on the new long march to realize the Chinese dream of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation under the leadership of the Party committee of the School.

Yan Xilin and Sun Yunhe, presidium members of the 2019 Student Union and Graduate Union, respectively read out the “Regulations of Student Union (Draft)” and the “Regulations of Graduate Union (Draft)”.

The candidates for 2020 Presidium delivered speeches in turn, respectively elaborating their own learning and work situation, post cognition and working idea.

The delegations were divided into groups for discussion in the afternoon. The delegates deliberated the work report of the 2019 Student Union, discussed Regulations of Student Union (Draft)” and the “Regulations of Graduate Union (Draft)”, and prepared a list of candidates for the 2020 Presidium. The delegations also discussed the proposals of the student representatives, studied the rationality and related suggestions of the proposals, which would be sorted out and submitted to the School.

The second plenary meeting was officially held.

At the congress, they read out the instructions to the composition scheme of the Third Student Committee and the recommended list of candidates, voted for the members of the Third Student Committee, and approved the “Regulations of Student Union of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan)” and the “Regulations of Graduate Union of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan)”. On the basis of fully deliberation of the list of candidates for the presidium, the presidium of the 2020 Student Union and the presidium of the 2020 Graduate Union were elected by secret ballot.

At the closing ceremony, Wu Di delivered a closing speech. She put forward three suggestions for student organizations and young student backbones. First, they should focus on their responsibilities and missions and continuously deepen the reform; second, they should face the problems and challenges and keep up with the pace of the times; third, they should bear in mind our ardent expectations and strive to be the action model. She stressed that the student representatives should keep firmly in mind the teachings and entrustment of General Secretary Xi Jinping, integrate their personal values and pursuits into the great practice of the Chinese dream, take the lead in cultivating and practicing the socialist core values, and set examples for the students around them. She hoped that the new student union could take this congress as an opportunity to strengthen the reform and development and push all work to a new level.

The congress ended in the “Song of Explorers”.

The third student congress is an important event in students' political life and an important way for students to experience socialist democratic politics on campus. In the future, under the leadership of the Party committee and the guidance of the Youth League Committee of the School, the student union and graduate union will deepen organizational reform based on the essential requirements, continue to unite and lead the students to follow the party, integrate their personal ideals into the common struggle of the party and the people, and create the new situation for promoting the "double first-class" construction and the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
