Yuan Fudong, An Alumnus of 2009 in Machinery of School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information Participates in 2020 Measurement of the Height of Mount Everest

The team of the 2020 measurement of the height of Mount Everest formed by survey members and mountaineers set out at the base camp of the world’s highest peak at 13:30 on May 6. Yuan Fudong, a graduate from the major of machinery of our School in 2009, serves as the climbing team leader of the 2020 measurement of the height of Mount Everest. Wang Yongfeng, deputy director of the Mountaineering Management Center of the Central Administration of Sport of China and the leader of the Chinese Mountaineering Team, announced the departure, and then the team set out.

Yuan Fudong, recommended for postgraduate study after graduation from the major of machinery, is no stranger to Mount Everest. In Apr. 2006, in order to pass the Olympic torch to Mount Everest, the University decided to select and train a group of mountaineers, and Yuan Fudong was chosen after a series of test. During the “devil training” in the following fourth months, many members couldn’t bear the boring and hard training, but Yuan Fudong stand out and finally selected to the summit team.

On the morning of May 5, 2008, Yuan Fudong reached the peak of8844.43m, raised the national flag of the People’s Republic of China with his strong hands and shouted to the whole world with all his strength “Welcome to Beijing, welcome to China”. He would never forget the special present for his 23^rdbirthday. It has been twelve years since 2008, although the environment of Mount Everest has changed, the deep memory of muscle will not change, the fortitude spirit forged by training will not change, and the team spirit will never die. This time, he is still brave and striving to realize his dream, just like he did in that year.

Yuan Fudong was awarded the title of “Outstanding College Student” by CUG and “Hubei Youth Medal” by Chinese Communist Youth League Committee of Hubei Province, and became a hero of CUG. Now, he is still the pride and model of all teachers and students of CUG. Twelve years have past since May 8, 2008. On May 8, 2020, he will set out again as the climbing team leader with our blessings.
