Job Description:
1. Ensure that system availability targets are exceeded for assigned systems.
2. Change and problem management targets are exceeded.
3. Ensure that customer satisfactory levels are exceeded.
4. Assist with project deployment
Job Responsibilities:
1. Plan upgrades and other changes to the LINUX environment
2. Actively and pro-actively determine possible failure faults and causes
3. Provide team leaders with input re projects/direction when required
4. Manage and resolve problems identified by users or monitoring software
5. Work with change and problem management tools
6. Provide technical assistance to the other members of the System Administration team
7. Hardware fault detection and correction
8. Liaise with customer accounts as required
Job Requirements
- Mandatory Skills Requirements
1. Strong RedHat and SUSE, Linux System administration experience
2. Strong problem determination skills
3. Ability to work unsupervised on several issues concurrently
4. Able to perform disk management functions such as extending logical volumes, creating file systems, mirroring disks
5. Understanding and ability to manually rebuild a kernel
6. Proficient in TCP/IP
7. Very comfortable with problem and change management practices.
8. Excellent X-Series Installation, configuration and trouble shooting
9. GFS and GPFS skills
10. DNS / DHCP skills
11. Good Documentation Skills/ Technical Doco i.e. Runbook
12. Flexible working hour eg. Weekend work, after hours
13. Performance monitoring and trouble-shooting.
14. Sound Scripting skills
15. Able to perform Operating System and Production Upgrades
16. Ability to supervise others
17. Liaise with Vendor i.e. IBM ITS
18. Strong understanding and awareness of Linux system security
19. Strong English communication skills - both verbal and written
- Desired Skills Requirements
1. TSM/ADSM operational and troubleshooting knowledge
2. Knowledge of IBM X-Series hardware platforms
3. RHCE Certification
