On the afternoon of April 6, the lecture on “My Growth in CUG”, a featured brand activity of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, was held in Lecture Hall 301 of No. 2 Teaching Building. Guo Fengzhi, an alumnus graduating in 1993, president of Guangdong Science and Technology Enterprise Cooperation Promotion Association, and secretary general of Guangdong-CIS International Technological Cooperation Union, shared a special topic entitled “Stories about China in the Belt and Road Cooperation” for students. The lecture was presided over by Du Yu, secretary of the Youth League Committee.

As an undergraduate student majoring in Russian, Guo Fengzhi achieved excellent academic performance and was actively involved in student affairs, serving as the president of the student union. After graduation, he continued to work hard in his professional field and devoted himself to the cause of the “Belt and Road” international cooperation. Over the past 30 years, he has traveled overseas more than 200 times, participated in more than 1,000 cooperation negotiations, and translated millions of words of technical information. At the sharing meeting, he told the stories about China in the “Belt and Road” cooperation to the students with a unique professional perspective and a humorous way of telling, encouraging the students to fully demonstrate their self-worth and social value in their professional fields, and strive to promote the development of China and tell the stories about China.

Guo Fengzhi introduced the historical background, development history and key cooperation contents of the “Belt and Road” initiative, and told the students about the important results achieved in the past 10 years since the initiative was proposed, focusing on the four key regions along the “Belt and Road” that he was concerned about. In combination with the current hot issues of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he analyzed the important opportunities for China in the context of the “Belt and Road” initiative.

Guo Fengzhi introduced to the students the specific work and achievements he and his colleagues have made in the framework of the “Belt and Road” cooperation. Over the years, he has made several trips to Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries to promote cooperation between China and them in science and technology, talents, industry, education, trade and commerce. He said that it is because of the close and in-depth exchanges and cooperation that more countries have deepened their understanding and knowledge of China. While promoting win-win cooperation and common prosperity, they have also better conveyed China’s voice, presented China’s style and interpreted China’s spirit to the world.

Guo Fengzhi, based on his own academic and work experience, called on young students to strengthen their professional study, consolidate their theoretical foundation, and prepare for their future career in related fields; to closely follow the pulse of the times, pay attention to social hot issues, and consciously cultivate their broad international vision; to cultivate patriotic feelings, nurture enterprising character and broaden the development direction, so that we can make a professional voice in whatever field, tell the stories about China and inject youthful power for the realization of the Chinese dream.

After listening to the lecture, Jia Fengwei, a sophomore, said, “Mr. Guo Fengzhi’s sharing helped us to enhance our understanding and knowledge of the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative. I will study my professional knowledge well, broaden my international vision, improve my overall quality and assume the responsibility of the times, and strive to further stand firm in the people’s position, tell the stories about China and serve the national strategy from my own professional field.”

It is understood that “My Growth in CUG” is a brand activity led by the ideological and political education of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information. The school will continue to invite outstanding alumni representatives to tell students stories about personal development, innovation and entrepreneurship, academic science and technology, to inspire teachers and students to continue to advance and move forward.
