Visit the old people’s home to pass warmth. On the afternoon of March 30, the Volunteer Association of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, together with the volunteer associations of the School of Earth Resources and the School of Automation, organized an activity to visit the old people’s home. 18 volunteers from the three schools went to the Futai Apartment for the Elderly in Hongshan District to send warmth and care to the old people.

At 2:00 p.m., the volunteers were assembled, and then all of them went to Futai Apartment for the Elderly in Hongshan District with milk and fresh fruits. After the volunteers arrived at the destination and had a brief communication with the person in charge of the apartment, 18 volunteers were divided into 3 teams to pay their respects to the elderly under the leadership of the person in charge. Volunteers sent comfort items to the elderly and chatted with them. Some volunteers listened carefully to the old people’s stories about their past, while others chatted with them about their health conditions and popularized the knowledge of policies related to the rights and interests of the elderly.

To enrich the spiritual life of the elderly, the volunteers prepared a talent show for them. A Song for the Explorers” showed the high passion of our students and made the elderly feel the youthful energy of CUG students. The volunteers also sang some classic red songs such as “The Yellow River Cantata”, “Returning from Target Practice” and “Unity is Strength”, and the elderly at the scene hummed along with them. The traditional Beijing opera performances were even more eye-catching and praised by the elderly.

Happy times are always very short, and at the end of the event, everyone took photos with the elderly to commemorate. At the parting moment, everyone was looking forward to the next meeting with a hint of reluctance.

The event ended with a lot of feelings. Volunteer Ye Jiayi shared her thoughts, “Honor old people as we do our own aged parents. In this caring activity, I deeply appreciate that the power of caring is so great, it can make the old people feel the warmth of being cared for, but also make us volunteers feel the joy of caring for others.”

“Filial piety first in thousands of classics”. This volunteer activity not only brought much warmth to the elderly, but also enriched the after-school life of the students. Volunteers actively participated in the activity and promoted the spirit of respecting and honoring the elderly with their actions, inspiring more young students to pay attention to the elderly community and contributing to social services.
