Lectures on the Anniversary of CUG

At 15:30 p.m. on October 30, the third session of excellent alumni experience sharing meeting on “Celebrating the Anniversary of CUG and Building the Future” was held in Room 301 of No. 2 Teaching Building. Luo Ling, an alumnus of Grade 2012 of the School and a political instructor of an army boat and bridge brigade, shared on the theme of “The "three steps" on the way of growth”. The sharing meeting was hosted by Liu Biao, a counselor of the School.

Luo Ling is a national defense student of Grade 2012 in our School, majoring in electronic information engineering. During his study at school, he was the student leader and captain of the school and university soccer team. On the field, he was capable of attacking, defending and fighting, and had led the soccer team to win many awards. From his own campus experience, he said that the first step on the way of growth is “self-reading”, and the journey of growing up in college is a continuous process of “self-reading”, not only looking up to the stars, but also stepping on the ground. He encouraged students to, firstly, clarify their own position, play their strengths, and make up for their weaknesses; secondly, set their goals early, implement them and maintain self-discipline.

After joining the workforce, Luo Ling cherished his military life, and he worked diligently and meticulously. He shared his own work experience and said that the second step on the way of growth is to “please oneself”. In order to achieve the status of “please oneself” in work, we should face work and study with a good attitude; for others, it is necessary to learn to think differently, and treat others the way you would like to be treated.

In 2020, Wuhan was faced with great difficulties in transporting supplies due to COVID-19. Luo Ling, who took serving the people and building a strong military as his lifelong pursuit, volunteered to participate in the transportation support team of the troops stationed in Hubei to fight against the COVID-19, and carried out material transportation tasks, which was specially reported by CCTV. During the execution of his tasks, he bravely took on responsibilities and constantly exceeded himself, and successfully completed all tasks. He said that the third step on the way of growth is to “surpass oneself”. He called on the students to, firstly, have a plan, reasonably plan their own development route and strictly implement it; secondly, be willing to suffer, accumulate experience and transform it into practical ability; thirdly, be willing to take up the responsibility, carry the heavy responsibility and be brave and good, follow the party with a loyal heart, serve the people with a pure heart, and serve the country with dedication, and practice the youthful vow of “Please count on me, on the way to a stronger country” in practical action!

It is understood that the excellent alumni experience sharing meeting on “Celebrating the Anniversary of CUG and Building the Future” is one of the important activities of the School to celebrate the 70th anniversary of CUG, and is also a special theme of the School’s brand activity “My Growth in CUG”. The School will continue to invite outstanding alumni representatives to tell students stories about personal development, innovation and entrepreneurship, academic science and technology, to inspire teachers and students to make continuous efforts to realize the dream of “building a world-class university in the field of earth science”.
