Learning and Practicing Together to Help Rural Revitalization

From July 10 to 11, in Miaoping Village, Lvliang City, Shanxi Province, the two summer social practice teams from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) (hereinafter referred to as "CUG") and China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing (hereinafter referred to as “CUMTB”) met unexpectedly in their practice activities, and decided to jointly carry out a series of learning and practice activities to help rural revitalization.

Lvliang City, Shanxi Province, is an old red revolutionary base area, the main battlefield of the Red Army's eastern expedition in the revolutionary war, the capital of the Shanxi-Suiyuan border region and the location of the CPC central rear Committee. Since 2012, the Keeping Dream Teaching-Assistance Association of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) has organized college students to form a teaching-assistance team to teach at Miaoping Village Primary School and Liujiahui Town Primary School in Linxian County, Lvliang City every summer. In 2022, the social practice group of China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing also came to Miaoping Village in the process of carrying out social practice activities on the theme of rural revitalization, and met with the Keeping Dream Teaching-Assistance Group from CUG, which was carrying out teaching-assistance activities there. The students of the two universities, both well-known in the geological and mineral industry, were very cordial about this accidental encounter and decided to jointly carry out a series of learning and practice activities on the basis of their original practice tasks.

In order to further promote the teaching effect and bring a richer educational curriculum to the children, the Keeping Dream Teaching-Assistance Team of CUG specially invited students from the Social Practice Group of CUMTB to give a lesson to the children. In the face of the teaching invitation with tight time and heavy tasks, the students of CUMTB agreed without preparation, and prepared their lessons during the gap between social practice activities. On the afternoon of July 10, in the warm applause of the children, the students of the social practice group of CUMTB walked onto the teaching platform and brought a special ideological and political lesson to the children of the two classes on the theme of “Youth and Dreams”.

The class kicked off in a lively atmosphere of drumming and passing flowers, and the lecturer invited the selected children to come up to the platform to describe their youth and dreams in their minds. Their answers were simple and sincere: “Youth means endless strength and unlimited enthusiasm”, “Youth is struggle, persistence and love”, “Youth should be used to chase dreams and not be afraid of difficulties and failures”. The teachers agreed with the children's answers and took to the platform one after another to tell their own stories of struggle in the process of growing up. Xue Huimin, a member of the Social Practice Group of CUMTB, told the story of her desperate efforts to get into military school, rejuvenating after experiencing failure, joining the national flag class of the school, and became a glorious flag raiser in day-to-day hard training, which deeply touched the children. At the end of the class, the teachers led everyone to recite in unison: "Why can't we create amazing wonders in this land?" "We can! And it's nothing, because we are standing on the motherland of youth." At the end of the class, the children went to the platform, took photos with their brothers and sisters, praised each other, and said that they would learn their spirit of not giving up easily and make unremitting efforts to realize their dreams.

In order to further promote the exchanges between the students from the practice groups of the two universities, consolidate the practice results, and strengthen their confidence in struggle, on July 11, the students from the two universities met at Miaoping Village Primary School to jointly carry out the theme league day activity in the front line of social practice. At the meeting, students from both universities introduced their alma mater in detail and reported on their social practice results in depth.

Liu Hao, a member of the practice group of CUMTB, described in detail how his team came to Qingtang Village in Lvliang City to carry out field visit and research in response to General Secretary Xi Jinping's important discourse on rural revitalization. He vividly depicted the development process of Qingtang Village from “holding a golden rice bowl, but begging for food” to "dense reed and fragrant rice dumplings” under the guidance of rural revitalization strategy, summarized the effective experience of rural industrial revitalization in Lvliang, and strived to promote it to more places to provide assistance for the Rural Revitalization of our country.

Unlike the young team from CUMTB, the Keeping Dream Teaching-Assistance Team from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) has been teaching in Lvliang for ten years. Niu Ruojie, a member of the team, taking into account General Secretary Xi Jinping's ardent wishes for young students, introduced in detail the story of the team's struggle over the past ten years to stay rooted in rural education, help rural children grow and become successful, and serve the cause of cultural revitalization in the countryside.

Ding Yufeng, the instructor of Keeping Dream Teaching-Assistance Team said that we called on young college students to go to the countryside to carry out teaching practice, which on the one hand could bring new experience and ideas to rural education, encourage children to study hard and strive hard with excellent examples, and on the other hand, it could also help college students understand the motherland more truly in practice, guide them to focus on their own development while thinking about the great of the country, and strive for the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

At the end of the league activity, the students of the two well-known universities in the geological and mineral industry, sang the “Song of Exploration Crew” together to express their ambition and encourage each other.

Even mountains and seas cannot distance the youth, and the future of our home and country is our aspiration. Although the two teams have different missions, the hearts of each member are closely linked to the country. In the follow-up practice, the two teams will continue to work together to contribute their youthful power to the cause of rural revitalization in the practice area together.
