Promoting Students’ All-Round Development with High-Quality Knowledge Sharing Platform -- the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information Continues to Promote a Series of Lectures on “My University, My Growing Season”

(Reported by Ding Yufeng, Yu Xiaozhou and Student Union of School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information) Growth and development have always been the theme of college students' school life. In order to implement the fundamental task of moral values and educating people, promote the academic style construction of the School, respond to the students’ comprehensive development needs, create a high-quality second classroom education carrier, and cultivate new engineering leaders with strong innovation ability, practical ability, family sentiment and international vision, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information of China University of Geosciences launched a series of lectures on "My University, My Growing Season" in September 2020 to promote the students’ overall development and improve the ideological and political education work level of the School.

I. Deepen the lecture content and create a multi-dimensional learning matrix

The lectures on "My University, My Growing Season" focus on the comprehensive development of students. Relying on internal and external resources, the School invites craftsman of great powers, advanced models, party and government leaders, experts and famous teachers and outstanding students to guest lecture site and share around four theme modules, guiding the students to study and think, feel and grow. Among them, the “Party History Learning” module closely follows the main theme of the times, invites advanced models of Party members with extensive influence to share their deeds and promote the Party history learning into the brain and heart in combination with their personal struggle process. The "Master Forum" module invites experts and scholars in the subject field to present their research results, helping students to touch the professional frontiers and strengthen their sense of professional identity and mission. The "My Struggle" module builds a relaxing interactive platform for students and teachers, invites teachers of professional courses to tell their own growth stories, and uses their own vivid struggles as teaching materials to teach not only professional lessons, but also life lessons. The "Peer Guidance" module focuses on students' school life, invites senior students to share their experiences in professional learning, scientific research and innovation, volunteer service and international perspective, so as to widely disseminate excellent experiences and promote peer self-education of student groups.

II. Incorporate it into the credit system to stimulate students’ enthusiasm for participation

In order to further enrich the student training system of the School, fully stimulate the students’ enthusiasm and enthusiasm to participate in the lectures, and guide students to participate in the second classroom learning, the University coordinated and incorporated the "My University, My Growing Season" lecture series into the recognition scope of innovation and entrepreneurship credits, as an effective extension of the ideological and political education course in the second classroom, forming a good situation of organic integration of ideological and political education and training system, which was widely praised by teachers and students.

III. Facilitate communication and feedback to accurately understand students' needs

Multiple demand calls for multiple supply. The School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information regularly conducts research on students’ ideological status and their development needs, regularly holds reception days for School leaders, and invite them to meet with students face to face and listen to the suggestions and demands of the student groups. The leaders of the School lead a team, cooperate with the head teachers and counselors to go deep into the classroom and visit the dormitory regularly, so as to timely pay attention to and solve the students’ general needs and practical difficulties. Student organizations continue to carry out information and research work, and form research reports on the students’ ideological trends and development intentions. These detailed work measures provide a more scientific and popular guidance for the content setting of "My University, My Growing Season".

Up to now, the "My University, My Growing Season" lectures have been carried out 22 times, and a total of 31 speakers have been invited to give face-to-face lectures and exchanges with students, the number of participating students has exceeded 2,000 times, and both lecturers and students listening to the lectures have responded enthusiastically to the format and effectiveness of the lectures. After the lecture entitled "Introduction to JS Communication Technology", Ms. Zhang Wei, the guest speaker, said, "I was surprised that the lecture was mainly for the students of electronic information, but the participants were not only the students of this major, and many students came to communicate with me after the lecture. I felt the enthusiasm and eagerness of the students to learn, and they mentioned a lot of interdisciplinary integration issues, which made me think that each major is not independent of each other, and more interdisciplinary communication is needed in the future." After listening to the lecture entitled "What's so confusing about university", Wang Shuo from Class 07D203 said, "We have more or less confusion and bewilderment in our minds soon after entering university, and the sharing of teachers and students is 'fresh and thirst quenching', so that we have a clear plan and goal for our future academic development. I also want to challenge myself in the future study, and strive to stand on the podium one day, and share my personal gains to more students.”

In 2022, the lectures on "My University, My Growing Season" will continue to focus on the fundamental task of establishing moral values and educating people, closely integrate with the talent cultivation goals and students' development demands, provide good ideological and political lessons, life lessons and success lessons, cultivate the new generation who can bear the heavy responsibility of national rejuvenation, and help students grow into socialist builders and successors with comprehensive development of moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic skills.
