At 2:30 p.m. on March 24, the mental health training for student leaders of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information was held in Room 111 of No. 3 Teaching Building, which was hosted by Luo Caiwei, the mental health education instructor, and all student leaders of the School attended the training. Zhou Chunyan, from the Department of Psychology of the School of Higher Education and the Student Mental Health Education Center, was invited as the keynote speaker for this training.

The training was divided into three parts: firstly, the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of college students; secondly, the early identification and intervention of college students' psychological crisis; and finally, the considerations in the daily work of class leaders.

Zhou Chunyan pointed out that the students' negative emotions during the epidemic tended to erupt in interpersonal interactions, especially manifested in dormitory conflicts. According to data released by WHO on March 2, the epidemic has led to a 25% increase in the global prevalence of anxiety and depression, women were more affected than men, and young people aged 20-24 were more affected than other groups. The number of consultations and the frequency of psychological crisis events in the counseling center of our university increased significantly in 2021. During the epidemic, interpersonal sensitivity, obsession, depression, and anxiety were the most common psychological problems faced by our students, and academic stress was the greatest source of stress faced by our students.

Zhou Chunyan said that the vast majority of crisis incidents were discovered and reported by class leaders, so it was necessary to strengthen the professional knowledge training for such groups. Zhou Chunyan explained the causes, treatment and intervention of common psychological diseases among college students, and emphasized that there was an absolute difference between general psychological problems and serious psychological diseases, and class leaders should pay attention to the distinction.

Zhou Chunyan introduced the specific treatment plan for psychological crisis events and put forward five requirements for class leaders: do not intervene in crisis without permission under non-special circumstances; do not neglect your own safety; do not spread the privacy of your classmates without permission; do not neglect follow-up observation and reporting; and do not neglect your own psychological adjustment.

After the meeting, Zhou Chunyan reserved the contact information of the counseling center and welcomed students to consult at any time.
