On the evening of June 21, Professor Liu Jie, member of the Standing Committee of the Party committee and vice president of the University, was invited to give a special ideological and political course entitled “Fundamental Principles of Building a Powerful Country in Education for the New Era” for the students leaders of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Information. Yu Xiaozhou, deputy secretary of the Party committee of the School, all teachers of the student affairs leading group, student organizations and the student leaders of all grades attended the course.

Liu Jie systematically introduced the background, scientific connotation and great significance of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important exposition on education. Starting from the overall situation of the great rejuvenation strategy of the Chinese nation and the unprecedented change in the world in a century, combining with the actual situation of university education, he explained that we should focus on the fundamental problem of cultivating who, how to cultivate and for whom in the great practice of promoting the development of education of the Party and the state based on the “nine insistences” and the historical mission of young students. He emphasized that education was the great plan of the nation and the Party; we should adhere to the fundamental task of building morality and cultivating talents, and cultivate socialist builders and successors with all-round development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics and labor education.
The classroom atmosphere was active and warm during the course. Liu Jie shared his understanding of the education reform and development and his experience in education over the years. Students also spoke one after another and said that in the new era, the development of education was very important to every student. We should not only learn professional knowledge, but also develop in an all-round way, to shoulder our mission and responsibility.
At the end of the course, Liu Jie put forward ardent hope for the student leaders of our School. First, we should focus on the strategic requirements of building a powerful country through education and science and technology, and accurately grasp the opportunities and challenges of the new era; second, we should bear in mind the historical mission, consolidate our ideals and beliefs in the study of Party history, and shoulder the responsibility of the times; third, we should forge ahead with innovation and practice, closely integrate personal development with the cause development of the Party and the state, and strive to grow into a new generation who can shoulder the responsibility of national rejuvenation.
