Building Online Classroom by Heart and Assisting in Improving Education in Youth

(Reported by: Pei Jingru and Du Yu), On Feb. 25, General Secretary Xi Jinping declared that China had scored a complete victory in its fight against poverty and created another splendid wonder in the world in Beijing to mark the country’s accomplishments in poverty alleviation and honor its model poverty fighters. In the winter vacation in this year, “Xiaxinxumeng” Undergraduate Commonweal Organization, in answer to the call of CUG, established the coupling relationship with   Shidian No. 2 Middle School, organized the supporting education team, offered the online classroom and helped the local improving education undertakings.  

Making serious-minded preparations and establishing the supporting education team quickly  

Shidian County, Baoshan City in Yunnan Province, as a state poverty county before, is located in the west border area, with related underdeveloped education resources. Shidianxian No. 2 Middle School is a fixed poverty alleviation point of CUG in its fight against poverty, therefore, it is obligatory for the undergraduate volunteer in CUG to carry out the volunteer supporting education, help the local students to strengthen the weakness in learning and broaden the learning vision field.  At the end of Jan. 2021, organized by Zhao Jiaqi, an undergraduate in Grade 2018, the head of Xiaxinxumeng Undergraduate Commonweal Organization, it quickly contacted the school, understood the demand for supporting education, worked out the supporting education plan, recruited the volunteers and established the supporting education team.

Careful planning and teaching in the online classroom with all one’s soul

The teaching in the online classroom is oriented toward the students in Grade Three that are well preparing for the national college entrance examination. Both School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information and the organization paid great attention to the work, made preparations for it and carefully planned it to guarantee the supporting education can be carried out with high quality. The head Zhao Jiaqi said, “after receiving this task, we have established the special working group from the recruitment of the volunteers to the training and then to the implementation of the supporting education to guarantee the smooth acceleration”.  

It was reported that the online classroom adopted 1V1 teaching mode and selected the most suitable teachers to individually tutor the students according to the demand of the school and the actual conditions of the students. In order to guarantee the teaching quality, the organization established a superintendence and direction team to supervise the online teaching at any time. Each teacher would make preparation for the teaching plan before class and made the self-feedback and record after the class. Ren Yi, a student in Class 07D207 participated in the supporting education activity. He said, “We prepare for lessons carefully, look up the information, select the topical examples for practice and improvement. In the short period of supporting education, we have got great gains and been aware of our responsibility”. 

Sustainable endeavor and actively fulfilling the youth’s responsibility

Improving education shows forth wisdom and power. For a long time, the young volunteers in School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information have been endeavoring to actively fulfill the youth’s responsibility. “Xiaxinxumeng” Undergraduate Commonweal Organization has devoted itself to the practice for a long period. Every year, it recruits about 100 volunteers in the winter and summer vacation to head for the rural areas to guard the dreams of the rural children. Last year, affected by the epidemic, the supporting education was transferred to the online classroom from the previous offline classroom, however, the volunteers stayed true to the mission and smoothly implemented the supporting education. Yang Junxi, a student in Shidian No. 2 Middle School said after receiving the supporting education :“Great thanks to all of the volunteer teachers from CUG! Despite the short term, such learning mode gives me such much fruits and their spirit of earnestness, responsibility, helping people makes me moved deeply.”

Shaking off poverty is not the finish line, but the starting point of a new life and new endeavor. “Xiaxinxumeng” Undergraduate Commonweal Organization and all young volunteers in this school will continuously make effort to enhance the improving education, impart the knowledge and the truth to the rural students and integrate their responsibilities into the endeavor road in the new era with the youth’s responsibilities with the actual action.
