[News] Second Semester Grade Meeting for Grade 2020 of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information

On the evening of March 28, the second semester grade meeting for Grade 2020 of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information was held at Room109, No. 3 Teaching Building. Liu Biao, counselor of Grade 2020, presided over the meeting, and all students of Grade 2020 attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Liu Biao made a theme report entitled “A Great Man Eager for Success”. The report included four parts: what is the greatest talent; a retrospective analysis of last semester; strengths and weaknesses in the process of growth and success; anchoring the goal and striving forward.

In his report, Liu Biao pointed out that since 2020, General Secretary Xi Jinping had mentioned the important concept of “Taking great responsibility for the nation” on many occasions. We should take this as a fundamental guideline and consider our own experiences, to effectively internalize into the theoretical logic and action logic for the growth of our students. A great man eager for success should make clear what we needed to gain, to improve, to grasp and to pay attention to on the road of growth and success, and our strengths and weaknesses on the road of progress, be good at combining our study and life with the overall situation of growth and success, and strive to pursue a brilliant life.

In summing up the work in the first semester, Liu Biao said that most students had made academic progress, achieved good results and set examples for all students since entering the new stage of study. But we should realized that some students relaxed their academic requirements and lost their learning goals, which led to academic burnout. He stressed that all classes should take the initiative to analyze the deep-seated reasons that hindered the formation of a good study style. The students who failed in examinations should overcome the influence of objective factors, find the cause form themselves, and strive to achieve the basic requirements of “effectively improving the learning foundation, positively stimulating the learning motivation, fundamentally changing the learning attitude, and accurately mastering the learning methods” as soon as possible. All students should unite to look forward, and look at all kinds of problems since the first semester from the overall situation of growth and success.

Liu Biao summed up the  of the students of Grade 2020 on the road of growth with “favorable time” and “favorable location”. The strengths included: the grand blueprint of “the ‘fourteenth five-year’ plan and the outline of long-term goals for 2035” pointed out the direction; what the students had learned adapted to the socialist modernization construction and the development direction of the “planning outline”; future development of “time” and “potential” were the fundamental elements of students’ pursuit of progress; the elegant environment of the University and the progressive science and education platform of the School provided favorable geographical conditions for all-round development of students. Upon comprehensive consideration of the strengths, he proposed that the students should constantly strive to achieve the goal of “leading talents of new engineering adapt to the socialist modernization construction”.

Liu Biao focused on the analysis of the eight  "human harmony" weaknesses on the road to success for students of Grade which are the lack of clarity of learning purpose, the lack of elegant taste cultivation, the lack of active communication awareness, the lack of understanding of rules, the lack of visionary vision, the lack of respect for etiquette, the lack of passion for hard work, and the lack of energy to overcome difficulties. He also pointed out that students should deeply analyze their own weaknesses, make changes if any, and move towards the systematic and comprehensive development on the road of growth and success.

Finally, Liu Biao hoped that the students could cherish their college time, actively adapt to the development trend, actively practice their internal skills, hedge the uncertainty of the drastic changes in the future development with the certainty of the comprehensive and healthy growth in campus life, view their strengths and weaknesses in a comprehensive and dialectical way, make clear the direction of struggle, and work together on the road of growth!
