On the afternoon of April 1, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information held the 2021 employment guidance meeting. Lei Chang, industry-university-research manager of Sohu Games and human resources expert, gave a lecture for our students. The meeting focused on the art talent gap in game entertainment industry and the cross-industry guide. Luo Caiwei, a teacher of the student affairs leading group, attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Lei Chang first gave an overview of the industry and the practitioners. He pointed out that the biggest competitors of new graduates were the former seniors who had internship experience, so they should take practice first, and submit more resumes and try more, which would be helpful in getting the offer and avoiding helplessness.
Lei Chang introduced the income, promotion and job hopping of the game industry, and specifically introduced the marketing means of making money from games, the ways of development and innovation, and the proportion of revenue sharing from outsourcing. He said: “Games are essentially an information flow industry. They rely on big data and point-to-point advertising marketing; game innovation and revision rely on the self-development of technical personnel; self-research and independent innovation of games can bring maximum profits for enterprises because of no payment for platform and patents.”
Taking the introduction to the cooperation results of SOHU in industry-university-research with universities as an example, Lei Chang showed the paintings of excellent students with PPT, differentiated the concepts of “painting skills” and “game industry painters”, and pointed out the talents needed by game enterprises. “Fusion Studio” offered a new idea for college students: a game-based platform for young workers to learn skills such as Mandarin, which had been well received by society.
On how to build their own learning map, Lei Chang gave a profound insight and pointed out that the production and learning were disjointed in the game industry and it was particularly dependent on autonomous learning, and a large number of practitioners learnt by themselves. If you wanted to integrate into the industry as soon as possible, you needed to find their own resources, pay attention to the competitions held by large companies, and participate in more free-team competitions to accumulate practical achievements and experience.
Lei Chang put forward some suggestions on job application. He pointed out that students should grasp the opportunities of autumn and spring recruitment to experience in time, avoid being too rigid in the influence of the region, and get the offer first, so as to provide more choices for themselves. Based on the salary and welfare system of Sohu for college students, he pointed out that enterprises would protect students’ positions and strictly retain their jobs for half a year to ensure their “landing safety”, which provided a guarantee for the changes in their positions.
During the on-site interaction, Lei Chang pointed out that freshmen should not be too anxious and should focus on their studies first to lay a solid foundation. He suggested taking credits in advance to save time for junior and senior students to improve their skills, conceiving graduation works in advance and taking part in more competitions, to enrich your resume
