On June 11, Prof. Fu Songnian from the School of Optical and Electronic Information of Huazhong University of Science and Technology made an academic report entitled “Performance Monitoring Technology of Optical Fiber Communication System Based on Machine Learning”.
In order to meet the increasing demand of network communication, the new generation of optical fiber communication system is developing towards the direction of ultra-high speed, super capacity and dynamic flexibility. In recent years, digital coherent optical communication technology has become the first choice of new generation optical fiber communication system. To ensure the reliable operation of optical fiber communication system, a series of parameters reflecting the transmission quality of optical signal must be monitored in real time. With the development of artificial intelligence, machine learning technology has been gradually applied to optical fiber communication system because of its advantages of independent feature extraction and mapping, intelligent response and less artificial intervention. In this report, the optical performance monitoring technology of digital coherent optical fiber communication link based on artificial neural networks (ANN) is comprehensively reviewed, and the future development trend of ANN aided optical performance monitoring technology is also discussed by comparing the application path of ANN technology under direct detection and coherent detection receiving mode.
The report meeting was presided over by Prof. Huang Tianye, deputy dean of our School, and attended by the faculty and graduate students. After the report, Prof. Fu Songnian and the teachers and students had a heated discussion about neural network transfer learning, optical network performance monitoring quality, interdisciplinary integration based on machine learning and other issues.
Fu Songnian, professor and doctoral supervisor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was selected into the talent plan of Hubei Province, and is now engaged in the research on the design and performance optimization of high-speed optical fiber communication system. He has presided over more than 10 programs, such as the national key research and development program, National 973 program, National 863 program, special major scientific instrument program, National Natural Science Foundation and the scientific research foundation for returned overseas Chinese students of the Ministry of Education.
