In accordance with the Regulations on the Administration of National Master Degree Candidates Admission in 2023 (JXH [2022] No. 2) and the spirit of relevant documents of the University, this School, in combination with the actual situation of admissions, hereby formulates the following work program for second-round examination for master degree candidates in 2023: 

I. Form of Second-Round Examination

According to the unified arrangement of the university, this School will adopt offline second-round examination for 2023 master degree candidates.

III. Arrangement of Second-Round Examination

(I) Qualification examination

1. List of qualification materials

 Second generation ID card;

 The original and copy of graduation certificate (the fresh undergraduate graduates must hold the student ID card or online student status verification report, and the admission qualification will be cancelled in case of failing to obtain the graduation certificate before entering the University. The candidate with questionable academic qualifications must provide the academic certification report or electronic registration form);

 Admission ticket of preliminary examination;

 Personal resume (6 copies in paper form), covering your university academic record, graduation thesis, scientific research achievements, etc., reflecting the candidate’s past academic performance, daily performance, scientific research ability, comprehensive quality and ideological and moral character. It should be submitted to the interview staff before the interview. The resume must not contain any form of personal contact information such as phone, email, etc. Otherwise, it will be regarded as suspected cheating and disqualified from the second-round examination.

Original college transcripts or copies of transcripts in the archives (with the official seal of the Archives Unit); graduation thesis or opening report, scientific research achievements.

 Other support materials: support materials include a brief of graduation design, award certificates at or above the university level, published papers (front cover, table of contents, first page of the text), monographs, translations or textbooks (front cover, back cover, copyright page), approval forms for scientific research (teaching and research) projects, and other supporting materials. The materials should be merged into a separate PDF file in the order of the achievement information in your CV and sent to the email 529485986@qq.com.

 The unqualified applicants could not pass the qualification examination. All qualification materials must be original and the copies should also be submitted. Those who fail to pass the qualification examination are not allowed to take the second-round examination.

2. Time and location of qualification examination

Time: 14:00-16:30 p.m. on Mar. 24, 2023

Location: Room 502 of No. 2 Teaching Building in the West Quarter of Nanwangshan Campus

(II) Content of second-round examination

The second-round examination mainly tests the candidates’ ideological and political quality, professional quality, innovation ability, foreign language level, cultivation potential and mental health.

1. Written examination for specialized courses. The written examination will take 2 hours. The written examination subject for mechanical engineering and machinery is “Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering Control”; the written examination subject for information and communication engineering and electronic information is Electricity General (including digital circuit, C language and English); the written examination subject for art design is “Integrated Product Design”. The full score is 100 points, accounting for 60% of the second-round exam results.

2. Comprehensive interview. It mainly focuses on the candidate’s ideological and political quality and moral assessment, comprehensive professional ability, innovation potential and ability, foreign language proficiency level, comprehensive quality assessment, and mental health condition. The comprehensive interview generally includes candidate’s self-statement, random selection of questions, interview panel questioning and communication, and expert scoring, and the duration is generally not less than 20 minutes. The full score is 100 points, accounting for 40% of the second-round exam results. The scoring composition of comprehensive interview is as follows.

(1) Professional ability and comprehensive quality assessment. It examines the candidates’ ideological and political qualities and moral character, and comprehensively assesses their mastery of theoretical knowledge and application skills in the discipline (specialty), their ability to discover, analyze, and solve problems using the theories learned, their ability to conduct international communication and document acquisition, their academic and professional background and vision, and their logical thinking ability and agility. This section mainly includes randomly selected questions and questions from judges, with a full score of 40 points.

(2) Innovation ability assessment. It focuses on the candidate’s knowledge and personal understanding of the development trends of the discipline, assessing their potential for development in the field and judging whether they have the creative spirit, innovative ability, and comprehensive quality. This section mainly includes the presentation of candidates’ personal achievements and questions from the judges, with a full score of 50 points.

(3) Foreign language listening and speaking ability assessment. It mainly examines the candidates’ foreign language listening and speaking ability, with a full score of 10 points.

After entering the interview room, candidates should submit their resumes to the on-site defense secretary, introduce themselves in bilingual, randomly select interview questions and answer them as required. After answering the randomly selected questions, they should continue to answer other questions from the comprehensive interview reviewers.

(III) Time and location of second-round examination

Time and location of second-round examination:

The second-round examination will be held on March 25-26.

1. The written exam will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on March 25. The location of written examination for mechanical engineering and machinery is Room 301, 302, 303, and 304 of No. 1 Teaching Building in the west quarter, with the written examination subject of “Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering Control”. The location of written examination for information and communication engineering and electronic information is Room 305, 306, 307 and 308 of No. 1 Teaching Building in the west quarter, with the written examination subject of Electricity General (including digital circuit, C language and English). The location of written examination for art design is Room 301 of No. 1 Teaching Building in the west quarter, with the written examination subject of “Integrated Product Design”.

2. The interview at 13:00 p.m. on March 25 will be held at Room 201, 208, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307 and 308 of No. 1 Teaching Building in the west quarter. The exam sequence will be determined by random selection on the same day by major. Candidates need to arrive at the examination hall 30 minutes in advance to complete the preparation for drawing lots and verification.

3. The interview at 8:30 a.m. on March 26 will be held at Room 206, 207, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307 and 308 of No. 1 Teaching Building in the west quarter. The remaining candidates will be randomly selected by major on the same day. Candidates need to arrive at the examination hall 30 minutes in advance to complete the preparation for drawing lots and verification.

(IV) Results of second-round examination

1. The second-round examination is scored in 100 points system, accurate to two decimal places.

Score of second-round examination: The second-round examination is scored in 100 points system. Score of second-round examination = written examination score*0.6 + total interview score*0.4. The total score of second-round examination is 100 points.

2. After the second-round examination, the results will be announced within 2 days and will be ranked by total score from the highest to the lowest.

(V) Payment for second-round examination

According to the price document, the second-round examination fee is RMB 100Yuan/person. Payment platform website: http://pay.cug.edu.cn/xysf/ (The account number is the ID card number, the password is CUG @ the last six digits of the ID card, and the last X is capitalized).

(VI) Physical examination

There is no physical examination during the second-round examination, and the candidates will take part in the entrance examination after admission. Candidates who fail the medical examination will be dealt with according to the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education.

IV. Admission Rules

1. Total score calculation. Total score = total score of preliminary examination ÷ sum of full marks of preliminary examination×100×60%+ score of second-round examination (100 points system) × 40%. The total score is calculated in 100 points system, accurate to two decimal places.

2. Admission rules

 The proposed admission list will be determined according to the total score from high to low. If the total scores are the same, it will be ranked by the total scores of preliminary examinations; if the total scores of preliminary examinations are the same, it will be ranked by the score of mathematics in the unified examination; of the math scores in the unified examination are still the same, it will be ranked by the English sores in the unified examination.

 Excellent and qualified candidates on campus open day, as well as candidates qualified for the “Innovative Talents” program for graduate students, who apply to this school as the first choice with the same major as the applied major, and whose scores in the preliminary examination reach the score line for first-choice major of this school, will be given priority in admission under the same conditions.

 The candidates to be admitted must complete the procedure for proposed admission before April 30 (complete the political examination, transfer personnel files or submit the targeted training contract). If the candidate fails to go through the procedures within the time limit, he/she shall bear the consequence of not being admitted. All the proposed admission lists must be submitted to the Ministry of Education for approval before they are officially accepted.

 The proposed admission list will be publicized for 10 working days. After the public announcement without objection, the School will submit the proposed admission list to the Graduate School in accordance with the admission plan issued.

 Candidates applying for joint training program must determine the joint training supervisor at the same time when they are proposed for admission.

3. In case of one of the following circumstances, the candidate will not be admitted or will be disqualified:

 Unqualified in ideological and political quality and moral quality examination.

 Failing to attend the second-round examination or unqualified in the second-round examination (the score of second-round examination is the sum of examinations; if the score is lower than 60, it is unqualified).

 Unqualified in the additional examination for the candidates at equal education level.

 Not publicized in the proposed admission list.

 Failing to submit the targeted employment agreement on time as a targeted employment candidate.

 Failing to submit graduation certificate and other required materials on time.

 Providing false information.

4. Admission category

 Non-targeted: The personnel files of non-targeted postgraduates must be transferred to the University within the specified time. Upon graduation, they will be employed by two-way choice between themselves and employers.

 Targeted: The targeted postgraduates must sign targeted training contract with the admission unit and employing unit before being admitted. Upon graduation, they will be employed according to the targeted contract. In principle, in-service targeted employees can be admitted as part-time postgraduates. Candidates taking individual examinations can only be admitted as the postgraduates who will return to their original units for targeted employment. For the targeted candidates without targeted employing units (targeted to the region) in the minority backbone program, the personnel files can be transferred.

5. Training mode

 Full-time: Within the basic length of schooling or the length of schooling stipulated by the University, they must study full-time in school.

 Part-time: within the basic years of study or the years of study stipulated by the university (generally, the basic years of study should be extended appropriately), various ways and flexible time arrangements shall be adopted for non-full-time study. Within the specified time, graduates who meet the graduation requirements and degree awarding standards will be issued with master's graduation certificate and degree certificate. The graduation certificate indicates that the learning mode is part-time.

6. Tuition and grants

For tuition, please refer to relevant standards of the Regulations of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) for Admissions of Master Degree Candidates in 2023. The scholarships and grants shall be implemented in accordance with relevant regulations of the University.
