Notice on Submission of the Application Materials for Candidates Applying for the 2022 Doctoral Program

I. Doctoral Admission Catalog

Admission Catalog for Doctoral Candidates of School of Mechanical and Electronic Information of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) in 2022

II. Admission Mode

(I) MD-PhD based program: The candidate should have excellent academic performance in undergraduate studies; pass CET-6, or pass TOEFL and IELTS for studying abroad, or have more than three months of overseas study experience, or have published English articles as the first author; have certain scientific research experience and scientific research achievements, or have obtained authorized national invention patents. The application by postgraduates in high-level key talent program for ethnic minorities will not be accepted.

(II) Advance to PhD: The candidate should complete all courses for master’s degree with excellent results; pass CET-6, or pass TOEFL and IELTS for studying abroad, or have more than three months of overseas study experience, or have published English articles as the first author; have certain scientific research experience and published an academic paper related to the research direction of master's degree in a high-level journal, or have obtained one (first or second author) or more invention patents. The application by postgraduates in high-level key talent program for ethnic minorities will not be accepted.

(III) “Application – Assessment”: In 2022, all doctoral admission units of the University will implement the "application-assessment" system to select outstanding doctoral students, and the University will not organize the entrance examination for doctoral students.

1. The "Application-Assessment" applicants should be full-time or part-time master graduates with double certificates (including fresh and previous graduates).

2.The fresh graduates should have completed all the courses for master’s degree with excellent results, and the previous graduates’ comprehensive rating of master’s dissertation should be good or above. At the same time, the graduates should be from the double first-class university construction universities or double first-class discipline construction universities, or scientific research institutions, or overseas first-class universities or overseas first-class disciplines, or the major is of class B (B- included) or above in the Fourth Round of National Discipline Assessment; the first degree must be a full-time undergraduate with a bachelor’s degree;

3. Foreign language ability must reach CET-4 or above, or IELTS ≥ 6.0 or TOEFL ≥80, or have published professional academic papers in high-level English journals as the first author, or have translated and published academic works as the first translator with no less than 10000 words;

4. The applicants should have strong interest in scientific research, outstanding scientific research ability, strong innovation consciousness, innovation ability and professional ability. Priority admission will be given to those who have published T4 or above academic papers in the journals relating to the discipline, specialty or similar research fields, or obtained the invention patent (as the first or second author), or have obtained the scientific research achievement award (ranking top five) related to the discipline applied for examination at provincial or ministerial level or above.

III. Online Registration Announcement for Doctoral Candidates in 2022

The registration system is the doctoral admission system of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) (http://zhinengdayi.com/cugyz→ online registration system → doctoral admission system). Registration is considered successful only after the application information is completed and payment is made. The application fee of RMB 155 Yuan is required for all applications and is non-refundable once the application fee is successfully paid.

3. Registration process and precautions

For details, please refer to the notice on the Graduate Admissions Information Network of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) for the current year and the online registration announcement for PhD students in 2022.

(1) When registering online, please be sure to correctly select the "registration method", "Application - Assessment" or "MD-PhD based program" in the "registration" application interface. Please select "MD-PhD based program" as the registration mode for advanced doctoral students.

(2) When filling in the "final degree", fresh master and master graduates who have obtained master graduation certificate should choose "master graduate"; BD-PhD and MD-PhD based students (including advance to PhD) should choose "undergraduate students".

IV. Registration Materials

After completing the online registration, candidates should send the registration materials to the Graduate Admissios Office of the School in time (Only relevant materials mailed by EMS will be accepted, and express mail from express company will not be accepted. The deadline is January 10, 2022, subject to the receiving date, and no late submissions will be accepted. If the application materials are not submitted on time or the application materials are incomplete, the application will not be accepted).

1. The paper application materials submitted by the candidates of "application-assessment" mode include:

(1) Application form for doctoral study (printed from the registration system, signed by the candidate, signed and sealed by the candidate's unit, original) (bound separately);

(2) Letter of recommendation from experts (original) (bound separately) (see Annex 1 for template);

(3) Please print and bind the “application materials” in A4 paper, add the cover (the cover of the application materials can be downloaded from our graduate admission information network → information disclosure → form download or annex 1) and the catalogue, and bind them into a volume according to the material serial number. The “application materials” include:

① Application form for doctoral study (printed from the registration system).

② Recommendation letters from two professors (or experts with equivalent titles) related to the subject to be applied for (experts can't be candidates' doctoral supervisors). (A copy of the recommendation letter of the bound application materials is available).

③ Master's transcript (graduate students in school can go to the postgraduate training department of our university to handle it and affix the official seal, and on-the-job personnel can copy it from their personal files and affix the official seal of the personnel department).

④ Copy of master's academic certificate, degree certificate and ID card.

Fresh graduates: postgraduate certificate; “Student Status Online Verification Report of the Ministry of Education” (Registration and application on China Higher Education Student Information Network);

Master's degree holders: master's academic certificate, degree certificate, and electronic registration form of education certificate of the Ministry of Education; candidates who have graduated before 2001 should submit the certification report of Chinese higher education qualification certificate issued by the Education Certification Center of the Ministry of Education or its agency;

Master’s degree obtained abroad: master's academic certificate, and Certificate of Foreign Academic Degree issued by Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange.

⑤ Bachelor academic certificate and bachelor degree certificate.

⑥ Certificate of foreign language proficiency (CET4-6; TOEFL; IELTS; WSK, etc.).

⑦ Award certificates, published academic papers, patents, published monographs, proofs of hosting or participating in major scientific research or engineering practice projects and solving engineering technical problems, and other proofs of original research results.

⑧ Master's degree thesis: those who have already received the master's degree should introduce the outline and innovation of the master's degree thesis, and the fresh graduates should introduce the opening report and research progress of the master's degree thesis.

⑨ Self-evaluation and a scientific research proposal for the period of doctoral studies (the proposal should be at least 3000 words).

All of the above materials will not be returned after being submitted to the unit applied for.

2. Candidates for “MD-PhD” based program and “Advance to PhD” should register online. The application materials to be submitted during the application period include:

(1) Recommendation letters from two professors (or experts with equivalent titles) related to the subject to be applied for (original, bound separately).

(2) Application form for doctoral study (printed from the registration system, signed by the candidate, signed and sealed by the candidate's unit, original), master's course transcript (downloaded from the e-signature platform of the University, printed in color), ID card and student ID (copy) (bound separately);
