Specialty of art design of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) was approved to establish the master’s program in design and art in 2003, and the first session of postgraduate students were enrolled in 2004. The specialty of design in this School relies on the cross effects of the disciplines such as mechanical engineering, art, interaction design and computer and follows the development tenet of “integration into the mainstream, high grade and elaborate works” to serve the national modernization construction and cultivate high-end talents for manufacture, Internet and other related industries. It focuses on industrial product modeling, interaction design, ergonomics and product digital design and devotes itself to cultivate the well-rounded high-grade design talents with broad design vision, proficient representation skills, solid analysis capability and good comprehensive capability of finding and resolving the problems, who can undertake the high-end and complex product design, research and development, technical integration and management.  

   This specialty is provided with many teaching and scientific research labs including Haier Maker Key Lab, User Research and Experience Design Lab, Product Modeling Design Lab, Industrial Product Model Making Lab, Product Photography Lab. In recent years, this specialty has actively developed the industry-university-research cooperation projects and has successively established the stable cooperation relationships with many manufacturers and design institutions such as Haier Group, Guangdong Industrial Design City, Beijing Dream Ink Technologies Co., Ltd, Hubei Huangshi Industrial Design, Innovation and Development Institute and Wuhan Xingguang Industry-University-Research Base so as to offer more feasible practice opportunities to the students.
    In addition, in the process of postgraduate education, this specialty puts stress on the international vision and makes efforts to adjust and enrich the development direction and characteristics of the discipline. In recent years, it has published over 20 papers on EI, SCI and Nanjing University search journals, undertaken many programs of National Natural Science Foundation, collaborative education programs of Ministry of Education and soft science programs of Hubei Province. Furthermore, it has obtained dozens of national patents for invention and patents of utility model and won many grand prizes in the international and national design competitions such as GD Competition, Red Dot, IF, China Universities Industrial Design Competition, Yellow Crane Cup and Channel Cup.
